Frequency of African Slaves

Sources: Slave Database

Descriptive Discussion In figure 1, the graph shows the frequency of slaves from seven selected areas. In Bamana about 6 percent of slaves were abducted by the “white man.” In Mandinga about 11 percent of slaves. In Nar/Moor about 2 pervent of slaves. In Poulard/Fulbe about 3.3 percent of slaves. In Senegal/Wolof about 8 percent of slaves. In Kisi about 2 percent of slaves. Finally, in Fon/Arada has about 3 percent of slaves. Interpretive Discussion Figure 1 shows the percentage of African slaves from different countries in Africa. Most African slaves were from Mandinga. The second largest group of slaves were the Africans from Senegal/Wolof. The third largest group of African slaves were from

Bamana. Fon/Arada, Poulard/Fulbe, Nar/Moor, and Kisi follow next in order from greatest to the least. The countries closer to the coast had the higher percentage of African slaves in the U.S. during slavery. The slaves were transported through boats on water. It would only make sense that Africans living closer to the water were most;y abducted.

Gender of Population of Slaves

Males Females

Sources: Slave Database Descriptive Discussion In figure 2, the graph shows the percentage of slave gender. The percentage of male slaves are about 45 percent. The percentage of female slave is about 55 percent. Slaves from Africa were either male or female.

Interpretive Discussion In figure 2, the percentage of female slaves is than male. Female slaves most of been in demand. The female is more useful when it comes to slave work. They raise the children and cook. The female slaves were used to make even more slaves. The owners of slave plantation use to rape their slave women. So female slaves were used as sex slaves too.

Descriptive Discussion In figure 3, the graph shows the skills of slaves. The skills are agriculture, domestic, horse/cattle, leather, forestry/lumber, and land transport, and crafts. About 23 percent of slaves were highly skilled in agricultural skills. About 34 percent of slaves were highly skilled in domestics. About 4.5 percent of slaves processed a skill in horse/cattle and leather. Interpretive Discussion In figure 3, the graph shows that most slaves had skills in domestics. Domestics is a wide variety of duties. Domestics mostly dealt with cooking and preserving food for the master and his family.

Richardson 6

Descriptive Discussion In figure 4, the graph displays the age group of most slaves brought from Africa to the U.S. Less than one percent were infant slaves. 1.2 percentage of slave babies were still nursing. Almost 2 percent of slaves were infants. 4 percent of the slaves were children. About 1.3 percent were young children. About 12 percent were adult slaves. Finally, about 0.9 percentwere old slaves. Interpretive Discussion In figure 4, most slaves were adults. The lowest percentage of slaves were unborn, which means it was few to no pregnant women. The higher number in adult slaves, shows that they were more essential at the time of slavery. Children slaves were second in the largest age group of slaves.
