(Note: Judicial candidates are asked to ONLY answer the Judicial Candidate questionnaire, and NOT the County or State Level questionnaire!) 1. Why are you seeking the endorsement from Stonewall Democrats of Dallas? The better question is why wouldnt I? I am seeking the endorsement from Stonewall because I believe Stonewall plays an integral part in the political process in Dallas County. I support Stonewalls position regarding equality and the advancement of equal rights for all people and opine that understanding who participates and why is important in determining who has a voice in politics. Stonewall has a voice. I think Stonewall recognizes this and the implications of these inequalities and I salute the efforts to equalize the process. 2. What are your plans to participate in a coordinated campaign in the general election? I will make the financial commitment requested as well work on the ground to ensure we get the votes out. 3. Will you use the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas endorsement in or on: a) your website - Yes b) your campaign literature and mailers - Yes c) your social media assets (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) - Yes d) your campaign advertisements - Yes 4. When elected, how will you recruit, retain, and create a friendly environment for LGBT and LGBT-friendly staff? Unfortunately, I have a very small staff with limited hiring capabilities. However I will absolutely maintain a friendly environment for LGBT staff. 5. Would you be willing to appoint a liaison to meet with the LGBT community on an ongoing basis? If not, why? Yes.
6. Understanding that administrative matters can take up a significant percentage of
your work day, what are some ideas for policies or procedures that you think you can improve court operations for the court which you are seeking office? What are the most important policies or procedures you've identified as needing improvement? Since taking office in 2012, I have implemented policies and procedures that ensure the 162nd Civil District Court is one in which any person who enters is shown respect, professionalism and more importantly justice in all matters. There is always room for improvement, but I believe in this area the 162 nd is on top of the game and I lead by example every day and require the same of my staff. 7. How would you handle a situation in which you or an employee under you felt the need to not fulfill all your lawful work duties due to deeply held religious beliefs? To the extent possible, I would relieve that person from that assignment and replace him/her with someone who can and will perform the job. If the requirements of the job are such that I cannot reasonably accommodate their religious beliefs without violating the law, then I would look for other options, including possible reassignment.
I, Phyllis Lister Brown, am seeking an endorsement from the Stonewall Democrats of
