Classroom Management 101

Based on the book, The Morning Meeting Book. This course will show teachers ways to
develop a classroom community that builds students confidence, while increasing
students reading, writing, and communication skills.

Learning the Learners

The course is designed to familiarize teachers with the normal developmental stages of
adolescents in order to fully understand their growth process and effectively manage
classroom interaction in the academic setting.

Differentiated Reading Centers

Teachers will be able to differentiate their reading centers based on students abilities
while also being reminded of the different ways in which they can differentiate for their
students process, product, and content. Teachers will also be able to find resources to
utilize for their reading centers.

Taking Apart Words

The goal of word analysis is for the reader to be able to take words apart quickly, as
needed, while reading and writing. Teachers will learn effective strategies for taking
words apart while reading so children can maintain their fluency in reading and writing.

Online Resources

Teachers will be given hands on time with the numerous data bases, and actually do a
project. After attending this session teachers will be able to successfully use all data
bases available to them from GCPS. There are data bases for all grade levels.

Arts Integration through eClass

This course will focus on using technology to document, implement, and share Arts
Integration. Teachers will learn ways to integrate technology available at the school to
further document and integrate the Arts at. With so many aspects of theatre, art,
rhythm, and dance being visual, digital recording offers an excellent platform for
students to record, evaluate, and receive feedback on their craft. Teachers will also learn
to evaluate content area integration, quality of work and effort on the part of the
students, and provide documentation for grading and evaluation purposes. This course
is designed for teachers with a strong eClass background.

Constructed Response
Andrea Sims
Target Audience = 2-5
Location = Sims 1.0.140
Through this course teachers will be able to define constructed response questions and the
different types of constructed response questions. Teachers will also be able to utilize specific
strategies in the classroom to teach students how to answer constructed response questions.
Upon completion of this course teachers will be able to score a constructed response question
using a rubric and give feedback.

App Smashing
Kevin Scheiwe

Teachers will be exposed to a variety of web tools and apps that support teaching and
learning. Teachers will then be grouped together and must use App Smashing
(integrating 2 or more apps/web tools together) to create a presentation. These will be
presented to the group and posted online as a resource for other teachers to use in their
classroom.

Mimio 101
Mark Callachan

Location = STEM Lab
Through this course teachers will be introduced to the Mimio and its instructional
capabilities. Teacher will walk away with the ability to use the Mimio effectively as an
instructional tool.

Differentiated Instruction during Math Workshop

This course will teach teachers how to differentiate instruction with the use of four
classroom elements: content, process, products and learning environment. Teachers will
learn how differentiation will allow them to tailor instruction to meet the individual needs
of their students.

Classworks 101
Katherine Blevins

Through this course participants will expand their understanding of Classworks. Teachers
will learn to effectively navigate the Classworks program, assign and customize
Classworks instructional units, assign benchmark, universal screener, and skills snapshot
assessments, create custom assessments, and run and view class and assignment
reports and know how to analyze results

STORI The Easy Way


Montraveous Cheeks & Fletcher Proctor

Participants will review not just what STORI is but how to properly use the online system
of data collection. Teachers will learn how to properly set up the data collection fields and
enter in an appropriate probe. This will ensure that teachers have adequate data to base
current and future lessons on, as well as to monitor how a student is progressing in
terms of IEP goals.

Integrating the Visual Arts

Teachers will participate in hands on demonstrations and make and take projects based
on their grade level AKS and interests.

Mentor Sentences: Teaching Grammar the WRITE WAY!

Through this course participants will gain an in depth understanding of Mentor Sentences
and strategies to incorporate them into their daily writing lessons.

Envision THIS!
Chantelle Rountree & Ian Andre

Location = Andre 1.1.138
This course is designed to introduce Envision Math and all of its components. Teachers
will explore the teachers edition, the online resources, and the student workbooks.
Participants will also view manipulative demonstrations and learn how these can be
connected to Envision Math. Teachers will learn how Envision Math can be incorporated
into the Gradual Release Model, look at assessments available through Envision, and
discover ways to use Envision for remediation and extention.

Workshop Model Management


Erica Centurioni & Melissa Tolbert

This course will cover how to organize and manage your class while you are pulling
guided reading and math groups. Teachers will learn how to develop a workshop visual
organizer and teach students their expectations. This course will also cover how to
organize classroom materials to make it an easy to use system for students.

Inquiry Circles IN-ACTION!

Participants will learn about how Inquiry Circles can increase collaboration and
cooperation and improve small group learning. Teachers will learn the inquiry process,
view Inquiry IN-ACTION, and discover ways to develop inquiry lessons aligned to their
AKS.

Teaching Superkids to FLY!

During this course participants will discuss challenging students. Instructors will suggest
possible reasons they may be challenging and provide strategies to approach/address

their challenges.

Web 2.0 Tools


Jon Paul Coutourier

Through this course participants will learn Web 2.0 tools and apps that can be integrated
for assessment. Teachers are required to systematically and consistently use a variety of
diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments that are appropriate for the content
and student population. This course is designed to help teachers satisfy this expectation
by teaching participants about both the TIMs Matrix and the different LoTi (levels of
technology integration). This information can be used to assist them in the
implementation of technology best practices.
