Diagnosis
Diagnosis is modular in structure and can be put together as desired. Different diagnostic
tools are required, depending on the diagnosis type. Please take the settings for the
diagnostic tools from the relevant manual.
The following diagnosis types are available:
EOBD Diagnosis (European On-Board Diagnosis)
The read-out data are exclusively exhaust-gas-related information from engine
management and transmission control.
OBD Diagnosis
Manufacturer-specific system diagnosis
Parallel Diagnosis (only in conjunction with D-Box SP)
Live measurements of actuators and sensors directly at the wiring harness and
control unit.
INFORMATION! Before beginning diagnostic work, always check the settings for the
diagnostic tool used in the program settings.
ATTENTION! Always read and observe the INFORMATIONs and messages in the
program run.

serial OBD diagnosis that a power supply of 12 volts is guaranteed. To ensure this,
either connect an external power supply or start the engine. Otherwise a correct
diagnosis result cannot be guaranteed.
- 29 -
- 30 -
You can move the movable measuring point with the mouse by clicking once in each case
to lock and to release. The current value is now displayed at the corresponding position
where the measuring point is locked (meaning of axes: x-axis = time; y-axis = signal level).
The value display is geared during measurement flexibly to the Maximum (Max.) values.
9.2.4 Ambient data/FreezeFrames (Mode 2)
The control unit automatically sets the priority to one
of the read-out faults. In this function this fault is
displayed in the upper bar of the screen. The
ambient data of the trouble code (= the conditions
under which the trouble code was stored) are
displayed in the lower bar in the window.
- 31 -
ATTENTION! The Delete function also deletes simultaneously the faults in Mode 2 with
the associated ambient data and the sensor values from Mode 5 and resets the status of
the component/readiness codes to "not tested" (1).
It is therefore recommended to call up and archive the above-mentioned data before
deletion.
9.2.7 Oxygen sensors (Mode 5)
After the test cycle is completed, values of the
lambda oxygen sensors are displayed here. The
values shown here are static (constant) ones. No
values are displayed here if the test sequence is not
completed (readiness codes 0). This mode is not
supported by all the control units. No value is output
here in the case of wide-band sensors.
The control units output many different values (max.
9 standardised values per oxygen sensor).
Manufacturer-specific values are also output.
- 32 -

the fault memory is read out, the fault memory list is saved in the memory module. In
this way, after the fault memory is deleted, you can print out a complete overview of
the stored and corrected faults. Click on [Print ]
to print the list.
INFORMATION! In the case of safety-relevant vehicle systems, trouble codes are not
always deleted immediately. In these cases, it is necessary to turn off the ignition for
several seconds or perform a test drive.
- 37 -
- 38 -
ATTENTION - PETROL/GASOLINE ENGINES! After the test, start the engine with the
throttle valve fully deflected (to avoid possible starting difficulties after activation of the
fuel injectors).
In the case of a function without a description from the manufacturer, the function number
of the activated component is displayed. (This enables assistance to be provided over the
hotline.)
If communication is broken off, it is re-established automatically after a warning message
(if, for example, the engine has to be switched off, communication is forcibly broken off).
9.3.12 Coding control unit (ECU)
This function enables your to code control units with or without additional input parameters.
In the case of the immobiliser, it is possible to reprogram the ignition keys by entering a
security code.
To execute a coding function, please adhere to the following sequence:
If available, call up [Help] and read the
exact description of the coding procedure.
If a parameter has to be entered, click on
the [OK] button. This opens a window in
which you can enter the parameter.
Observe the prescribed sequence while
adhering to the time limits. Start the coding
function by clicking on the [OK] button.
Wait for feedback from the system and if
necessary follow additional instructions.
If a fault occurs during coding, the preset system parameters normally remain valid.
Newly input parameters are accepted and thus become active only after coding has
been fully and correctly carried out.
- 39 -
9.3.13 Calibration
The Calibration function enables vehicle components to be learned or adjusted. This is
necessary because modern control units adapt themselves to component wear and
automatically make corrections in the specified tolerance band. If a worn component is
replaced by a new component, the control unit must be reset again to the standard values.
INFORMATION! this function is different from system to system. Please, read and
follow always the help and indications in the program
ATTENTION! Read [Help ] before executing a calibration function. This section
describes in detail the prerequisites for successful execution as well as any particulars.
To start the calibration, click on the [OK ] button that follows the name of the corresponding
component. You will then be referred again to the operating conditions which must be in
place.
9.3.14 Analog systems
If (digital) serial diagnosis is not available for the selected vehicle, it could still be possible to
carry out an (analog) scan of the flash codes.
Start OBD diagnosis.
Click on the [Additional information]
symbol in the symbol bar to locate the
position of the diagnosis connection.
Start diagnosis as you would OBD
diagnosis.
How to carry out an analog trouble code
scan is explained in the window that is now
displayed.
Move downwards with the blue bar. The
read-out trouble code is broken down in the
trouble code table.

o Press the four areas to move the visible area of the display. (Move to the left to
view older stored values).
X-resolution:
o Select from the three value ranges for the X-axis. With a smaller resolution
(bottom button), more values fit on the screen (overview).
Channels and view:
If your diagnosis box can measure on several channels, you can measure and
display up to four pins simultaneously.
Channels:
o Switch for example to 2 and set the pin for the second channel. (Active, Pin and
Resolution are set separately for each channel. All other settings such as e.g. Xresolution are the same for all channels).
View:
o Click on the three buttons to select from the four variants for the view (individual,
on top of each other, next to each other).
Trigger:
o During triggering, the values are measured and normally displayed until a value
breaks through the set threshold value (in the direction of the set edge). A yellow
cross indicates this point, the drawing is recorded and only a few values are
added on the right.
ON, OFF:
o The trigger mode is activated when the switch shows ON.
Channel:

o Click on the arrow to establish whether the rising or falling edge is to be
triggered.
Threshold value:

Mode:
o The display stops as soon as triggering has occurred. If the mode is individual,
the measurement also stops. If the mode is cont., measurement proceeds
continuously (without the values being displayed) and, if the measurement breaks
through the threshold value again, the new triggering is displayed.
Pretrigger time:
o The time period which is shown prior to triggering. Set a higher value to see more
values prior to triggering.
