WHAT IS
CURRICULUM?

MY KEY LEARNING POINTS

WHAT IS CURRICULUM?
Curriculum is coherently emphasizing a place where every learner is
expected to read with comprehension, write with clarity, and
effectively speak and listen with social connection with each other.

HOW DID I FEEL AFTER THE ACTIVITIES?

The activity raises a special challenge that every child needs a
learning that is committed to build a character appropriate for its own
purpose.

MY REFLECTION

1. Why is curriculum important?

Curriculum is important because it is the main foundation and structure of the
lessons and academic content taught in school. It is the benchmark of where to begin
the process of planning the lessons and skills enriched in the school. It is indicating the
frameworks in learning new ideas.

2. How can one enrich the curriculum in every school?

Curriculum is the most basic in the school structure. It is created to bring
oneness among the community. School should be small enough to assure that every
student will be known by name. The school must be a purposeful place with a clear
and vital mission. A school must be an institution where everyone is treated fairly. A
caring place, where everyone feels secure with clearly defined rules and conduct.

THE TYPES OF CURRICULUM IN SCHOOL

MY EPISODE OVERVIEW

The episode describes the different types of curricula in schools. This

learning episode allows you to differentiate the types of curricula existing
in different schools.
MY

DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOME

Summarized the existing types of curricula in various schools.

Reflect on the importance of the different types of curricula.
Complete the matrix on the types of curricula.

MY PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
I will rated along the following:

Quality of my observation and documentation.

Completeness and depth of analysis.
Depth and clarity of classroom observation-based reflection.
Completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio and
Time of submission of portfolio.

MY LEARNING ESSENTIALS
There are several types of curriculum existing in schools.
TYPES OF CURRICULA IN SCHOOL

1. RECOMMENDED
CURRICULUM

2. WRITTEN CURRICULUM

3. TAUGHT CURRICULUM

4. SUPPORTED CURRICULUM

There are recommendations in the form or

memoranda or policy, standards and
guidelines that came from government
agencies such as DepEd, CHED and TESDA
and
professional
organizations
or
international bodies such as UNESCO.

This includes documents based on the

recommended curriculum. They come in
the form of course of study, syllabi,
modules, books, instructional guides
among
others.
Example
of
written
curriculum is the teachers lesson plan.
The teacher and the learners will put life to
the written curriculum. The skill of the
teacher to facilitate learning based on the
written curriculum with the aid of
instructional materials and facilities is
necessary.

These are support materials that the teacher

needs. This includes print materials like
books, charts, worksheets, and non-print
materials like PowerPoint presentations
and other electronic illustrations. It also
includes facilities like science laboratory
and playground.

This is the curriculum that is evaluated after

it has been taught. It can either be
assessment for learning, assessment as

5. ASSESSED CURRICULUM

learning or assessment of learning. If the

process is to find the progress of learning,
then assessed curriculum is for learning,
but it to find out how much has been
learned or mastered, then it is assessment
of learning.

These are measured by tools in

assessment, which can indicate the
cognitive, affective and psychomotor
outcomes.
Learned
curriculum
also
demonstrates higher order and critical
thinking and lifelong skills.

This is the unwritten curriculum- peer

influence, school environment, media,
parental pressures, societal charges,
cultural practices, natural calamities are
some factors create hidden curriculum

6. LEARNED CURRICULUM

7. HIDDEN/IMPLICIT
CURRICULUM

Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what

counts is best.

w a teacher from a school. Ask this question.
ust a teacher be aware and sensitive to the hidden curriculum?

Teacher must be aware of the hidden curriculum because it is reenforcing the

lessons taught in formal curriculum, or might be contradicting it. It is based on the
concept of how the students absord the lessons in school that may or may not be part
of the course of study- for example, how they should behave or interact with peers,
teachers, and other adults; how they should perceive different races, groups, or classes
of people; or what ideas and behaviors are considered acceptable or unacceptable.

MY REFLECTION/INSIGHTS

A good curriculum manifest the desired outcome of

learning. It was carefully designed to meet the real

the

significance and issues of everyone involve in the

structure of the school and to the real world.
Curriculum is not all about the knowledge and skills
that the school expects successful students to
acquire but also programs that are intended to
supplement the academic aspect of the school
experience
