Transcription of the Will of William Brown (25th April 1778) by Anne

Willoughby

In the name of God Amen I William Brown of Willington house in the


county of Northumberland Gentleman being of sound and disposing mind
memory and understanding do make this my last Will and testament in
manner following (that is to say) first I give and bequeath as follows (to
wit) I give to my dear wife Mary Brown one clear annuity of thirty pounds
to be paid to her or her assigns yearly and every year during the term of
her natural life by quarterly payments on the first day of May the first day
of August the eleventh day of November and the second day of February
in every year by even and equal portions The first payment thereof to
begin and to be made on such of the said quarterly days of payment as
shall first happen next after my death And I give unto my said wife the use
of all my Household goods plate china and linen during her life and from
and immediately after her decease I give and bequeath the same
household goods plate china and linen to my three daughters Mary wife of
John Scott of Preston in the said county of Northumberland Master
Mariner Elizabeth Brown and Ann Brown to be equally divided among
them share and share alike as tenants in common and to their several
and Respective Executors Administrators and Assigns freed exempted
and discharged from the payment of my debts and legacies and all other
payments whatever and I desire that an inventory may be made thereof
and that my said wife do by a writing at the foot thereof acknowledge to
have in her custody all the things therein to be mentioned and that
.will be forthcoming and delivered to the persons who shall be
entitled to the same by this my Will at her death And I also bequeath to
my said dear wife the sum of fifty pounds for mourning and I do give and
bequeath to my said daughter Mary wife of John Scott the sum of Two
Hundred Pounds to be paid her within twelve months next after my death
And I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Brown the sum of seven hundred
pounds
And to my daughter Ann Brown the sum of seven hundred
pounds to be severally paid at their respective ages of twenty one years
or days of marriage which shall first happen after day of my death with
interest for the same after the rate of five pounds per centum per annum
from the day of my death And I give and devise unto my son Richard
Brown the sum of fifty pounds to buy his ? mourning And I give and
devise unto my son William Brown all my Real Estate and Leasehold
Estate and interests Whatsoever And also all my collieries and farms and
parts and shares in collieries and farms and in all other business Trading
and Dealing whatsoever and all my stock in trade Monies Securities for
money and all other my personal Estate and interest whatsoever and
wheresoever the same be To hold to him my said son William Brown his
heirs executors administrators and assigns according to his nature and

tenure of such estates and Interest respectively subject nevertheless to


the payment of all my Just Debts and the said annuity and the several
legacies above mentioned And I do hereby expressly charge all my said
estates with the payment of my Debt and the said annuity and the said
several Legacies accordingly and I do appoint my said son William Brown
sole executor of this my last Will and Testament In Witness thereof I have
hereunder set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of April in the year of
Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight

as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his
presence at his request and in the presence of each other have
