Areas of Parallelogram and Triangles

1. If the mid-points of a quadrilateral are joined in order, prove that the area of the
parallelogram so formed will be half of that of the given quadrilateral.
2. O is any point on the diagonal BD of a parallelogram ABCD. Show that ar.of triangle OAB=
ar. of triangle OBC.
3. D is the mid-point of side BC of triangle ABC and E is the mid -point of BD. If O is the midpoint of AE, then show that ar. triangle BO= (1/8) ar. triangle ABC.
4. XY is a line parallel to side BC of ABC. If BE ll AC and CF ll AB, meet at E and F respectively. Show that
ar. ABE=ar. ACE.
5. ABCD is a trapezium with parallel sides AB=a cm and DC=b cm. E and F are mid-points of
non-parallel sides. Show that ar. ABEF: ar. EFCD=(3a+b):(a+3b)
6. Prove that a rectangle and a parallelogram on the same base and between the same
parallels, the perimeter of the parallelogram is greater than the perimeter of the rectangle.
7. Diagonals PR and QS of a quadrilateral PQRS intersect at T such that PT=TR. If PS=QR show
that area PTS= area RTQ.
8. The sides AB and CD of a parallelogram ABCD are produced to P and R respectively such that AB=BP and CB=BR
and parallelogram BPQE is completed. Prove that ar. ABCD =ar. BPQR
9. ABCD is a quadrilateral. BP is drawn parallel to AC and BP meets DC produced at P. Is area ADP= ar. ABCD ?
10. If the medians of a ABC intersect each other at G, show that
ar. AGB= ar .AGC=ar. BGC=1/3 ar. ABC
11. ABCD is a rhombus whose one angle is 600. Prove that the ratio of the lengths of its diagonals is 3:1
12. ABCD is a parallelogram. P is any point on CD. If area DPA = 15 cm2 and area APC = 20 cm2, find the area
of APB.( 35 cm2)
13. In ABC, if L and M are points on AB and AC, respectively such that LM ll BC. Prove that
ar. LOB = ar. MOC.
14. The area of a trapezium is 39 cm2. The distance between its parallel sides is 6 cm. If one of
the parallel sides is 5 cm, then find the length of the other parallel side.(8 cm)
15. Prove that the median divides a triangle into two triangles of equal area.
16. D and E are the mid-points of BC and AD respectively. If the area of ABC=10 cm2, find
the area of EBD.( 2.5 cm2)
17. ABC and BDE are two equilateral triangles such that D is the mid-point of BC. Then prove
that
ar. BDE= ar ABC.
18. Diagonals AC and BD of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect at O in such a way that ar(AOD)=
ar(BOC). Prove
that ABCD is a trapezium.
19. Diagonals AC and BD of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect each other at P. Show that
ar. (APB) X ar. (CPD) =ar. (APD) X ar. (BPC).
20. The sides AB and CD of a parallelogram ABCD are produced to P and R respectively such
that AB=BP and CB=BR and parallelogram BPQR is completed. Prove that ar. (ABCD)= ar.
(BPQR).
