Description
For this assignment, you will put together your multi-genre research paper, a nontraditional paper using many different genres, depending on what the specific subject,
facts or audience call for. Tom Romano, who coined the term multi-genre, said that
multi-genre papers recognize that there are many ways to see the world, many ways to
show others what we see (Romano, Tom. Writing with Passion. Portsmouth, NH:
Boynton/Cook Publishers, 1995).
Each entry in your paper will focus around the one topic you chose and have been
working on since the beginning of the semester. Be sure your topic can hold weight itll need to incorporate creative non-fiction, poetry, fiction/dialogue, and nonfiction/research.
Requirements:
Your paper must include:
A Title Page
A Table of Contents
An Introduction
Seven Entries (at least two pages each)
A Works Cited Page
Title Page: The title page should include your name, the date, class, and the title of your
project.
Table of Contents: A list of the titles of your entries in the order in which they appear
and which page they are on.
Introduction: This will be where you supply the reader with anything you want them to
know before reading the paper, such as: how the entries are related to one another or
which parts of your paper are fiction and which are fact. You will also want to include
your research question (thesis statement).
Entries: Seven entries minimum are required, but feel free to add more. You are
required to use a minimum of FIVE different types of genres. NOTE: Only ONE graphic
or creative genre will count towards your required seven, any more will be welcomed
but will not count towards your minimum requirements. Also, all
photos/drawings/songs/etc used must be of your own creation.

Repetend: A repetend is word, sound, or phrase that is repeated. You should pick a
word or phrase to include in each entry to give your project a sense of unity.
Works Cited: For the Works Cited page, I will require a complete list of all the sources
you used in proper MLA form.
Rhetorical Situation
Audience: Someone with knowledge of your topic who disagrees with your opinion
Genre: A multi-genre research project
Purpose: To persuade your audience of your ideas while demonstrating the work youve
done all semester

Turn in First Draft in print: In class April 14
Conferences: April 19, 21, 26
Final Draft: April 29th by 11:59pm to Weebly site

Dont worry. Its not that complicated. Well take this project one step at a time, and Ill be
available for consulting along the way! Plus, well be looking at examples and brainstorming in class
together.

Sowhats a genre?

A genre is a category of composition distinguished by distinctive style, form and content.
This is just a short list of examples of genres you could include in your paper (any genre you think
of that isnt on this list, you may also use but let me know).
