First Semester Down, Second Semester Under Way: Can you believe we only have 85 more days left of this school year?
The time really seems to fly by when kids are working hard learning. Parents dont forget, elementary grading does NOT
begin again at zero for the second semester like secondary school does. Our second semester grades continuously get
averaged in with the first semester grades. It is not counted separately.
School News: Some may have heard of the new state law called, Read by 3. This is an early literacy intervention bill stating
that schools must give diagnostic tests, reading interventions, and literacy plans to all students at risk for not being able to read
by third grade. The bill states that students not able to demonstrate reading proficiency will be retained in third grade. Our
school is currently a pilot for this bill and we are working with the district to implement our state literacy plan (which also
addresses the assembly bill regarding Dyslexia). Here at DMC, we have very intensive reading intervention programs and are
already completing the RTI plans for students at risk for literacy deficiencies. By becoming a pilot school, we are being given
the intervention kits required by the district, staff training and relief time to complete the plans, and possible our K-5 Literacy
Program.
Some Mid-Year Reminders (second posting):
Our Office Manager is now Mrs. Janosik, our Registrar is Mrs. Penney, and our School Aide is Mrs. Alexander.
