will be asked to draw the countrys flag and simple facts on the
country (food, animals, etc.) that are specific to that country. They
will get their information from guest speakers. Guest speakers will be

from the students parents or community members and will be asked

through invitation. Students will be broken into groups of two or
three to work on this and at the end of each day they will receive a
stamp of accomplishment for the specific culture. At the end of the
week we will have a party to celebrate all the cultures. They will be
graded on completion and participation in the lessons.

geography of continents and countries.

WHAT requisite skills do students need in order to access the lesson & participate
fully?
Answer: Students need to understand the basics of what the world
looks like. They also need the skills of answering and asking questions
and effectively listening to the speaker.
How does the content build on what the students already know and are able to do?
Answer: Since the students already know about the different countries
now we want to take that one step forward and research specific
cultures that are within that country.

Answer: It is teaching students to listen and answer questions.
Students will also be working on communication skills while they work
with each other. This lesson is also tied into geography where the
students will learn where these cultures are located.
By teaching this lesson, how will this add to student learning?
Answer: We are giving them an insight to different cultures.
How does the lesson build on previous lessons or previous learning?
Answer: Since they already know the countries, this lesson will go one
step deeper so they understand each culture.
How will the learning in this lesson be further developed in subsequent lessons?
Answer: After the lesson is finished, students will conduct a small
project on the culture of choice and write a short essay on it.

11. Instructional Strategies/Learning Tasks to Support Learning

Learning Tasks and Strategies
1. One day before the lesson is planned to

Student Voice to gather

Students will be able to understand their culture a little more as well as
others in the classroom. From this they will make connections and
compare to their own culture with each other. And realize that just
because it is a different culture there may be similarities.
