hadtomakewastogobacktocollegetobecomeabetterminister.Thiswasahard
decisionbecauseBeecherdidnothavealotofmoneyatthetimewhichwouldmake
payingforcollegeastruggle.YetifHenryhadnevernotgonebacktocollegehewould
haveneverbeenabletopreachandcouldhavepossiblymadetheSouthwinbecause
hewouldhaveneverconvertedasmanypeople.

HenryBeecherplayedtheroleofacelebrity,ministerandspeakerduringthe
CivilWar.Thisisbecausehepreachedandspokeabouthowslaverywasimmoraland
againstGodsplans.Sincemanypeoplewereinspiredbythesespeecheshebecame
increasinglypopular.Thesespeechesweresoimpactfulthathebecameacelebrityand
hissermonshadover3,000peopleattendingthem.PresidentLincolnalsofound
HenrysspeechessoimpactfultotheoutcomeoftheCivilWarthatheletBeecherraise
theUnionflagatFortSumterwhentheSouthhadsurrendered.
