creating new careers that truly protect the planet.
The Task

Green Technology What is it?

The term "technology" refers to the application of
knowledge for practical purposes.
The field of "green technology" encompasses a
continuously evolving group of methods and
materials, from techniques for generating energy to
non-toxic cleaning products.
The present expectation is that this field will bring
innovation and changes in daily life of similar
magnitude to the "information technology"
explosion over the last two decades. In these early
stages, it is impossible to predict what "green
technology" may eventually encompass.
The goals that inform developments in this rapidly
growing field include:
Sustainability - meeting the needs of society in ways
that can continue indefinitely into the future without
damaging or depleting natural resources. In short,
meeting present needs without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own
needs.
"Cradle to cradle" design - ending the "cradle to
grave" cycle of manufactured products, by creating
products that can be fully reclaimed or re-used.
Source reduction - reducing waste and pollution by
changing patterns of production and consumption.
Innovation - developing alternatives to technologies
- whether fossil fuel or chemical intensive agriculture

You are required to create a product that will be

useful and convenient to its users. The product must
be fashionable, elegant, adaptable and easily
adjustable to suit the users changing lifestyles. It
can be an improvement from an existing product or
a totally brand new product. Your design will be
judged based on broad use of Autodesk Inventor
software.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT
Submission of project shall include:
1. Form a group with a maximum number of
THREE (3) and produce a concept design of your
green technology product.
2. An abstract or synopsis of not more than 250
words, describing the design concept or
intention in a single A4-sized paper using Times
New Roman font, size 12.
3. An essay of 400-500 words, describing design
issues or problems, the proposed design
intention and solutions, and highlighting the use
of Autodesk software in a single A4-sized paper
using Times New Roman font, size 12.
4. TWO (2) pieces of A1-sized poster with
LANDSCAPE orientation (841mm x 594mm)
which comprises of 3-6 images of your design
process in JPEG format at a minimum of 300dpi
resolution. At least one of the images must be
an overview of the final design.
5. A copy of original Autodesk Inventor work file.
The total number of components must have a
minimum of TEN (10) components / part
including fasteners.
6. Students are required to submit an animation
video of between 1 to 3 minutes explaining the
product and its application.

 File formats: MOV, MPEG4, MP4, AVI, WMV or FLV

GRADING
This assignment will give a total marks of 30% from
the continuous assessment for the course. All group
are advised to fulfill the requirements to obtain best
results including creative and innovative design
beyond your minds.
COMPETITION ENTRY

Best project submitted will be selected for

competition entry at national and international
levels.
All design rights are maintained by the
designers and Department of Mechanical
Engineering POLISAS.
