Over last 10-15 years, we have devoted special attention to

the climate change. It causes the negative effect on ecosystem
including sea level rising, severe weather phenomenon. It is
scientifically proved that the primary cause of climate change is
greenhouse gases. Effects of greenhouse gases on atmosphere
increase by burning fossil fuel which causes temperature to rise. If
this continues, it will threaten the life of humans and other
species in the world. It is necessary for humans to find out the
reasonable method for this issue.
Firstly, what are green house gases? Greenhouse gases are
gases in an atmosphere that absorb infrared radiation and radiate
heat in all directions. They also trap the suns heat and stop it
from leaking back into space. Greenhouse gases behave much
like glass panes in a greenhouse. The glass panels of greenhouse
let in the light and prevent heat from escaping. Greenhouse gases
include water vapor, carbon dioxide methane, nitrous oxide and
ozone. Without greenhouse gases, the average of temperature of
earths surface would be about 15 C colder than the present
average of 14 C(Wikipedia, 2011)
Where do greenhouse gases come from? Green gases are
mainly made by humans. Main activities cause greenhouse is
from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat and transportation. In
the United States electricity, transportation and industry account
for the largest proportion of greenhouse gases emissions, which
were 31%, 27% and 21% respectively. Also greenhouse gas
emissions from these sectors are primarily from burning fossil
fuels (US Environmental Protection Agency, 2015). Fossil fuels are
coal, oil and natural gases used in domestic electricity,
transportation and manufacture. This process of burning fuel
fossils creates air pollutants which do not go out of the earth so
they accumulate and create a crust on the earths surface.
Burning fossil fuel causes temperature rise. Greenhouse gases
cannot escape out the earth so when the radiation of the sun

Molly
comes to it, the crust of the earth becomes hotter (Wikipedia,
2011)
What are the consequences of greenhouse gases on our life?
They lead to increasingly adverse effects on humans. For
example, this results in some disasters such as droughts, storms,
hurricanes and floods, which have killed billions of people in the
world. In some countries, the drought and flood cause the large
number of people loss of their shelter and food and make them
suffer deathly diseases. For instance, a devastating flood in
Fushun city of China destroyed hundreds of houses, killed a
massive loss of life in just one day and the economy lost 2 million
dollars. Moreover, typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in
the Philippines in early November 2013, killing at least 6,300
people in that country alone, destroyed every things in its way
and turned this area into stone age (Wikipedia, 2013).
In addition, greenhouse gases also directly affect the whole
ecosystem. Firstly, the disaster caused by temperature rise
damages a lot of animals. More seriously, this causes the worst
extinction in the near future. Recently, the numbers of species
extinction are more than 2 millions and now it is increasing
considerably. , it is reported that the polar bear is in danger of
extinction. In fact, there are only fewer than 10 thousand bears in
the world because they can't live without cold temperature. So
the rise in temperature makes the polar bears die.
Secondly, plants are also damaged. Particularly, plants have
become extinct and are expected to be extinct in the near future.
Also, crop production is reduced. The main reason is that the rise
in temperature, which is resulted from green gas emissions cause
changing rainfall patterns and severe droughts in many countries.
To address greenhouse gases requires actions from all
countries, governments and individuals. Firstly, when the industry
is growing fast, more waste is disposed of, governments should

Molly
implement strict solutions to discourage industrial pollution such
as raising the tax for using fossil fuel and encourage to use
environmentally friendly energy like wind energy and solar
energy. Secondly, international cooperation between countries
can make a significant contribution to this issue. Particularly,
Kyoto Protocol is a legally binding agreement under which
industrialized countries can reduce their collective emissions of
greenhouse gases. Lastly, this issue will be more effectively
solved when individuals change their lifestyles. For example, they
can contribute to the reduction of green house gas emissions by
using public transport instead of private transport, which limits
toxic waste into the atmosphere; or by using electricity-saving
devices. Moreover, they can make environment cleaner by
planting trees. It is because through photosynthesis trees absorb
carbon dioxide emission to produce oxygen.
In conclusion, the increases in the level of green house gases in
the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels damage a lot of people and
other species. If this issue cannot be solved soon enough the
world will become much colder, threatening the life of people and
other species more seriously. In order to protect the environment
and our survival, both governments and individuals need to take
joint responsibility.
