Congressman David Jolly Blasts Washington for Ignoring National Debt
Congressman Jolly Urges Congress to Immediately Consider Balanced Budget Amendment Indian Shores, Fla. United States Senate Frontrunner and Florida Congressman David Jolly (R-FL13) today blasted Washington for continuing to ignore America's debt crisis that just this week eclipsed $19 trillion. In total, the national debt has increased by more than $8.3 trillion since President Obama took office. How many more trillions does our nation need to stack up before Washington recognizes the severity of the problem, said Congressman Jolly. Saddling future generations with a debt they'll never be able to repay is immoral and unworthy of America. Congressman Jolly urged congressional leaders to immediately consider a Balanced Budget Amendment on the House floor. It has been nearly five years since the U.S. House last addressed a Balanced Budget Amendment. The measure received a 261-165 vote in the House, with 25 Democrats supporting, but failed to meet the two-thirds threshold needed for passage. The Florida congressman recently sent shockwaves through Capitol Hill when he introduced legislation prohibiting members of Congress from cheating taxpayers by raising money on official time. The Stop Act (H.R. 4443) has been endorsed by 10 editorials throughout the Sunshine State and was officially introduced this week with bipartisan support. Maybe if Congress focused a little less on job preservation and a little more on the preservation of America's future, we can start to disarm our exploding debt, said Congressman Jolly. A recent Florida Atlantic University poll showed Congressman Jolly with a 20-point advantage over all Republican hopefuls in the race to replace Senator Marco Rubio.
