Dear Sir/Madam
I am a recent graduate who studied Mathematics at the University of
Hertfordshire, and I am applying for the position of Actuarial Consultant.
What first attracted me to Aon Hewitt was when I read about your acquisition of
Dempsey Partners in an effort to expand and create a specialised consulting unit.
Another aspect that stood out to me was the launch of a new policy to cover
business affected by weather conditions. This was impressive especially as Aon
has provided a relatively early alteration. Weather conditions progressively alter
every year; therefore it is important for Aon to be flexible.
The prospect of exploring a variety of actuarial tasks; whether its client based,
statistical modelling or interoperating analytical results, motivates me towards
working inside Aon Hewitt. The importance of the actuarial role is highlighted by
its increasing relation to risk in political agendas and global finance
management. Working within such a dynamic role strongly appeals to my own
commitment and drive. Additionally, whether its been researching the value of
Christmas presents hidden inside cars in the UK, or the population of marine life
within the Gulf of Mexico during 2010; trivial information has always captivated
me. This role is the perfect platform for creating meaning from a plethora of
information.
I had the fortunate opportunity to talk with Nick Hatherley at the Actuarial
Careers Reception. Mr Hatherley was able to offer me insight into daily
responsibilities of actuaries within Aon. I learnt that the position does not solely
revolve around numerate competence. The communicational aspect of the role is
appealing as it provides the opportunity to teach others, and vitally learn aspect
about surrounding individuals, occupations and companies.
My attached C.V. shows that Ive gained experience in personal business
endeavours outside of my academic degree, which demonstrates my own
personal ambition. Both Snapbacked and ERGH are profit making enterprises;
one of which internationally imports fashionable head attire, whilst the other is
an organised night. I additionally have an interest in poker; this has allowed me
to apply my mathematical insight which has yielded some success.
