ACCREDITATION CRITERION: 1. Demonstrating design skills

(Section C3 in the Guide to Accreditation Criteria)
Whats gone well?
Accurate and appropriate use
of an intentional design
process.

Use of permaculture ethics,

principles and theory is
appropriate to the situation.

Use of a variety of tools which

suit the needs of the client and
the situation.

Design is intelligible, coherent

and effective (i.e. it met the
needs of the client).
Documentation for and
presentation of the design is
appropriate for clients & third
parties.

Agile and Action planning used There was a

good discussion of OBREDIMET and SADIMET
and how they didnt fit the needs of the design
brief. Great to have an introduction to AGILE.
Elements of OBREDIMET etc were included in
the write up and adapted to fit the design brief.
This whole design is very much People Care
which is apparent throughout. G also includes
the Earth Care and Fair Shares and
demonstrates understanding of both. A good
variety of Holmgren principles are used in the
design.
G used zoning, base map,
functions/systems/elements, PMI, SWOC
analysis. He adapted the zoning for room use
and shows a good understanding of how this
can work and also how zoning can evolve over
time.
The design is beautifully laid out as a website.
Its great to see the use of photos and sketches
in here.
The write up acknowledges the various people
who are involved in the care of the client and is
clear for people involved to understand.

What could have been done differently?

Would be great to see more clear labelling to
show how each step of the design fits the Agile
process.

I would like to see more clear labelling of the

different documents to say what is in them, as
there is some repetition which is slightly
confusing. It may be helpful in future designs to
ask someone to support with proofreading?
It might be nice to have a brief introduction to
permaculture and how this has influenced your
design if the stakeholders are new to
permaculture.

Fill in 2a or 2b
ACCREDITATION CRITERION: 2a. Applying permaculture in your own life
(Section C4 in the Guide to Accreditation Criteria)
Whats gone well?

What could have been done differently?

Explanation of changes made

to enhance personal and / or
household sustainability (e.g.
needs and challenges).
Clear explanation of how the
solution was developed using
design process and
Permaculture theory.

ACCREDITATION CRITERION: 2b. Applying permaculture to your work and projects

(Section C2 in the Guide to Accreditation Criteria)
Whats gone well?
Identify which of the 15
categories of application the
design applies to from the
checklist in the Guide to
Accreditation Criteria, and
provide feedback on each.
Clear explanation of how the
solution was developed using
design process and
Permaculture theory. The
solutions are relevant and
appropriate to the activity and
content areas.

What could have been done differently?

This design demonstrates several categories;

Site development
System development
Design consultancy
other
Clear acknowledgement of the constraints of the
design such as costs and timescales. Solutions
are very appropriate and sensitive to the
situation and wishes of the client.

It would be good to see a little more information

on why one solution was chosen over the others
e.g. an analysis of the options available

ACCREDITATION CRITERION: 3. Learning from and developing your permaculture practice

(Section C5 in the Guide to Accreditation Criteria)
Whats gone well?
Evaluation of the effectiveness
of your design work on this
project.
Reflection on use of design
tools and processes, and use
of Permaculture theory and
practice.
How the design shows that
your competence and skills in
practice and learning is
progressing.

Good to see the evaluation of the

appropriateness of the various design
processes. Also feedback from the client
included.
G shows a good insight into the processes and
how they fit or dont fit the design brief. Although
using a non-permaculture design process, G
referred to and used a variety of Permaculture
tools and theory.
This is a competent first design, demonstrating
knowledge and awareness of Permaculture
Design skills and merging it with previous
knowledge of business and systems design.

What could have been done differently?

I would like to see more evaluation did the
design meet the needs of the client and other
people involved?

Id like to see a comment on how you felt your

learning developed through the process.

Comments about project format, general or specific issues

Any other comments?

I am struck that this has been a difficult first design particularly because of the emotions involved. I
love how it is laid out and easy to read personable.

Conclusions
How ready is this design for
presentation?
What are the apprentices next
steps?
The highlight of this design for
me was.

Minor changes?
Some tweaks more clear labelling of sections.
Include some reflection on how the design met the aims and on your learning through the process.
Id like to see some analysis of why you chose one option over another, how permaculture
influenced your decisions.
The sensitivity shown in the people care not just for the client but for her carers and family. Also
the skill shown at an early stage in the Diploma.
