Kuwait Oil Company (K.S.C), hereafter called COMPANY, have awarded the consortium of
Petrofac International Ltd. (Petrofac) and Consolidated Contractors Group S.A.L
(Offshore) (CCC),thereafter called CONTRACTOR, the Works comprising all things to be
done and services to be provided by CONTRACTOR including but not limited to the
engineering design, procurement of Material, expediting, shipping, placement of
Subcontracts, project management, construction, inspection, testing, pre-commissioning,
training of COMPANY personnel, commissioning, operation and maintenance during the
ramping up of production to 60 MBOPD until turnover, performance testing and all other
works to complete the Lower Fars Heavy Oil Development Program Phase-1 (60 MBOPD)
on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis, to provide COMPANY with complete, proven and
operable facilities.
Phase-1 facilities comprises of two well blocks which shall be designed to process a
nominal 60,000 BOPD of heavy oil. The field shall be developed using thermal recovery
process which shall employ Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) followed by Steam Flood (SF).
The broad scope involves development of Production Support Complex (PSC), Central
Processing Facility (CPF), Well Blocks 02 and 03, Infield Satellite Station (ISS), Trunk And
Steam Lines, Pipelines For Export Oil, Fuel Gas, Make Up and Disposal Water, Sub
Stations, New Storage Tanks along with Loading and Filling Manifolds, New Crude Oil
Control Centre (COCC) and Pumps In South Tank Farm (STF).

Scope
This document covers Piping Material Specifications for all Process and Utility services
applicable for LOWER FARS HEAVY OIL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PHASE -1 (60 MBOPD).
This specification defines the material requirements for pipes, fittings, flanges, valves,
line blinds, bolts and gaskets including size range and pressure / temperature limitations
for each pipe class. Class wise piping material specifications are enclosed as APPENDIX-II:
PIPE CLASS DETAILS. This specification covers piping system designed and constructed as
per ASME B31.3.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The environmental conditions in Kuwait are severe. Refer to "KOC Standard for Basic
Design Data" (KOC-G-007), which provides the basic information required for design such
as the temperature, wind, environmental, site and utility supply conditions prevailing
throughout the KOC facilities.

5.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT


This specification prohibits the use of asbestos for any piping components.
The Manufacturer / Vendor shall comply with "KOC Health, Safety and Environment
Management System (HSEMS)" requirements for the protection of KOC personnel,
equipment,

property,

asset,

and

the environment during the design, material

selection, manufacture, assembly installation, operation and maintenance of all


equipment, products, and accessories covered by this Specification.

6.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
a) All process and utility piping systems within the battery limits of the facility including
piping within the equipment skid limit shall be designed in accordance

with the

requirements of ASME B31.3 (2012 Edition) and Project Piping Specifications.


b) Minimum design pressure for any pressure piping system shall be 3.5 barg (50 psig).
c) Applicable Pressure and temperature limits are as shown on cover sheet for each
piping classes.
d) Non-Standard-Class flanges such as Class 400 shall not be used.
e) Where a piping class is specified as being in accordance with NACE, all piping shall
fully comply with NACE standards. All wetted and pressure containing parts are to be
in compliance with ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO/15156" Petroleum and natural gas
industries - Materials for use in H 2 S containing environments in oil and gas production"
Parts 1 to 3, 2nd Edition, 2009-10-15 including all Technical circulars prevailing as on
15th July 2014 and KOC specification KOC-MS-001 Part-1, Rev.2 and with sour service
requirements specified in this Specification for pipes in section 7 of this specification.

f) Piping for Non-Sour Service: API 5L PSL-2 pipe shall comply all the requirements
specified in KOC-MP-018 and its Addenda Doc no. 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0016, and KOCMP-019 and its Addenda Doc no. 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0017.
g) Nominal pipe sizes 1.1/4 in., 2.1/2 in., 3.1/2 in., 5 in., 22 in. and any other nominal
pipe size not shown in ASME B36.10M / ASME B36.19M, shall not be used except to
match the Approved Manufacturer's equipment connections. Where a non-preferred
connection is encountered, the mating pipework shall be increased immediately to the
next acceptable size.
h) Metallic piping less than the size NPS 2 will be socket-welded type or screwed except
for sour service. Screwed connections, when used in hydrocarbon service; shall be seal
welded up to the upstream side of the first block valve or instrument root valves.
Threaded connections shall be as per ASME B1.20.1.
i) Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) of pipe welds shall be carried out as per the
requirements of ASME B31.3. For longitudinal seam welded pipes, the requirement of
PWHT during manufacturing shall be based on ASME B31.3 thickness limits; unless
otherwise specified in any of the documents elsewhere.
j) Impact testing:
i) For API 5L PSL2, Impact testing and its acceptance criteria shall be as given below:
The acceptance criteria for Charpy Impact Test shall be as per clause 9.8 and
table 8 of API 5L, at the designated test temperature.
In case of Sour service, impact testing shall be conducted at the designated test
temperature in line with requirements specified in KOC-MS-001.
ii) For CS fittings: The requirements of impact testing shall be as per ASME B31.3.
The acceptance criteria for Charpy Impact Test shall be 27J average for three
specimens with minimum of 20J for one specimen, at the designated test
temperature.
The values given above are acceptance criteria for the standard size specimens. In
case where standard size specimens are not practical, impact testing of the highest
possible sub-size specimens shall be opted. For sub-size specimens, the above values
for standard size specimens shall be multiplied by the ratio of actual specimen width
to that of a full size specimen width which shall be 10mm (0.394 in.).
k) For Super Duplex Stainless Steel, PREN [wCr + 3.3(wMo + 0.5wW) + 16wN] shall be
greater than or equal to 40.

l) Unless otherwise specified in the Piping Material Classes Specification, epoxy lined
piping shall be internally coated with a fusion bonded epoxy system to a minimum
thickness of 375 microns in accordance with KOC Standard KOC-P-005. For U/G
portion, the CS piping shall be externally coated with High Build Epoxy as per KOC
specification KOC-P-004 Part-8 Rev 1.
m) All above ground fire water and foam piping 3 and above shall be internally lined
with Liquid epoxy and externally painted. For U/G portion, the CS piping shall be
externally coated with High Built Epoxy as per KOC specification KOC-P-004 Part-8 and
internally lined with Liquid Epoxy. Minimum thickness of internal coating shall be 300
microns as per KOC standard KOC-P-005. For sizes below 3, MOC shall be in
accordance with the applicable piping classes.
n) Dissimilar Metallic Materials
Dissimilar metallic materials shall be flange jointed using flange insulation kits as per
philosophy mentioned in Material Selection Report (15050901-000-MT-REP-0001).
Welding of dissimilar metallic materials, where the welding is exposed to conducting
process fluid is not permitted.

7.

SOUR SERVICE REQUIREMENTS

7.1

Requirements for Carbon Steels


Materials intended to be used in sour service shall comply with the requirements of
ANSI/NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 (2009) and technical circulars, KOC-MS-001 PART 1 and as
supplemented in the following clauses:
a) All pipes shall have a maximum hardness of 226 BHN (238 HV10), unless lower values
are in the applicable product standard. Wrought fittings shall have a maximum
hardness of 197 BHN. Forgings shall have a maximum hardness of 187 BHN.
b) Welds and HAZ shall have a maximum hardness of 226 BHN (238 HV10). All welds shall
undergo one hardness test every 3 m or portion thereof (minimum of one per seam).
c) No cold forming / bending shall be allowed. In case local cold forming of fittings is
required to accommodate site requirements; it shall be with prior approval of the
Company.

d) Valve body, bonnet, disc, ball, bonnet bolts and stud / bolts, nuts, stem etc. (all
welded parts) shall have a maximum hardness of 226 BHN (238 HV10) for cast
construction; unless other values are specified in the applicable standards.
e) All forgings shall be normalized.
f) Welded Pipes and welded fittings shall be subject to HIC test in accordance with NACE
TM0284. HIC testing of seamless pipes and fittings may be required if so specified in
other KOC Standards or Purchase Order / Contract.

7.1.1 HIC Testing


Where HIC testing of materials is required by this Specification or any other KOC Standard,
then the following shall be applicable:
a) HIC tests in accordance with NACE TM0284 shall be conducted on three specimens
from one coupon from every heat of steel produced by continuous casting method or,
two sets of three specimens shall be taken from opposite ends, from every heat of
steel produced by the ingot method.
b) A coupon from the thinnest section used from each heat shall be tested in accordance
with Section 6 of NACE TM0284, using test solution "A".
c) Specimen may be taken at Vendor's option from plate per Section 5 of NACE TM0284
or per Section 4 of NACE TM0284 from the "mother" pipe or a finished fitting (testing
of longitudinal weld is not required).
d) After testing, the specimens shall be cleaned, sectioned, examined and evaluated as
required by Section 7 of NACE TM0284. Individual and average values shall be reported
as per Section 8 of NACE TM0284.
e) Acceptance criteria shall be as follows:

The above acceptance criteria shall apply to average of 3 examined sections from one
specimen. Surface blistering is acceptable.

7.1.2 Carbon Steel Seamless pipes


a) Material shall conform to API 5L Gr.B PSL2 in accordance with KOC Material
Specification for Line Pipe for Sour Service KOC-MS-001 Part 1 Rev. 2.
b) ASTM A106 pipes may be used in plant piping provided they meet all physical,
chemical, NDT requirements specified in KOC-MS-001 Part-1 Rev-2, and on written
approval of Company.
c) Low temperature service materials like ASTM A333 Gr.6 is permitted as specified (with
restrictions) in respective Piping classes.

7.1.3 Carbon Steel Welded Pipes


a) All CS welded (SAW) pipe shall have one (1) straight seam meeting requirements of API
5L PSL 2, and KOC-MS-001 Part 1 Rev. 2.
b) Longitudinal seam fusion welded pipes produced in accordance with other ASTM
Standards such as ASTM A671, making use of heat treated pressure vessel steel
plates is acceptable. However HIC testing shall be done as well for that pipe
material.
c) ERW pipes shall not be acceptable for use in sour service.

7.1.4 Carbon Steel Fittings and Flanges


a)

Forged Fitting and flanges shall be as follows:


i.

Forged material shall be supplied in normalized condition.

ii.

The chemical analysis shall be in accordance with the standard and in addition
the following limitations shall be applied for chemical composition:
Sulphur not to exceed 0.025%
Carbon Equivalent (CE) (IIW long formula) shall be 0.38% Max.
All forged material shall have a maximum hardness of 187BHN.
HIC test is not required.

Wrought Fittings:
i)

100% radiography of weld joints required in case of welded fittings.

ii)

HIC test shall be applicable for seamless and welded fittings as mentioned in
Clause 7.1.1.

iii)

The chemical analysis shall be in accordance with the applicable product


standard and in addition, the following limitations shall be applied for chemical
composition:
Sulphur not to exceed 0.010% for seamless fitting, and 0.003% for welded
fittings.
Carbon Equivalent (CE) (IIW long formula) shall be 0.38% maximum.
Wrought fittings shall have a maximum hardness of 197 BHN. Cold formed
and heat treated fittings

shall undergo

100% hardness testing at

multiple locations per fitting .

7.2

Technical Requirements for Stainless Steels and other CRA's


a) Stainless Steels and other CRA's shall comply with ANSI/NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156 and
shall be suitable for the design conditions in respect of temperature, H 2 S partial
pressure, chloride content and other applicable environmental parameters.
b) The use of Nickel based alloys, Ferritic, Martensitic and Duplex stainless steels and
other corrosion resistant materials shall be restrained as required in the applicable
Table(s) of ANSI/NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156.
c) Stainless steels shall be in the solution annealed condition and shall meet the
requirements of ANSI/NACE MR 0175/ ISO 15156.
d) The use of cold worked stainless steels is subject to the limitations imposed by
the ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
e) All stainless steel pipes shall be as per KOC Standard for Stainless Steel Pipe: KOC-MP020 including all requirements and supplementary requirements as shown in Appendix
'A' of KOC-MP-020 where applicable.

Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)


a) For fabricated items, each welding procedure shall be subjected to hardness testing
during procedure qualification. The Vickers method using a 10 Kg load shall be used.
Testing shall be carried out on a prepared and etched macro-section of the weld. A
hardness traverse including the weld metal and heat affected zone and parent metal
shall be done as required in ANSI/NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156.
b) Maximum permitted weld metal hardness for carbon steel items shall be 238 HV10.
This requirement shall be applicable to weld repair procedures for castings as well.
c) The maximum permitted weld metal and HAZ hardness for austenitic stainless steels
shall be 22 HRC (248 HV10) as per Table A.2 of ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 Part 3.
For other CRAs, the hardness values on welds shall be limited to the maximum
permitted for the base material in applicable specification or as limited

by

ANSI/NACE MR 0175 / ISO 15156, whichever is the lowest.


8.

WELDING
1. Welding shall be performed in accordance with KOC specification as listed below
a. 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0008: Specification for Welding Requirement
b. 015-WH-1001: Welding Procedure Approval and Welding Quality Requirements
c. 015-WH-1002: Field Welding Reqmts including Welding heat treatment and NDT
2. The GTAW process shall be used for root & hot passes for butt welding in sour service
piping and nozzles less than 1-1/2 and below.
3. In all the cases where piping is to be internally lined with Epoxy paint, all root passes
shall be done with GTAW process.
4. Wherever weld overlay with CRA material is specified for valve components, the
following conditions shall apply:
i.

The procedure / methodology adopted shall be weld overlay only.

ii.

In case of manual / automatic weld over lay process, the minimum weld
overlay thickness required after machining shall be 3 mm.

iii.

The required CRA deposit shall be obtained through a minimum of 3 passes.

iv.

The machined surface of the valve component shall undergo PMI Test to verify
the major alloying elements.

v.

Where barrier layer is applied prior to the overlay, the PMI results shall meet
the specification of the filler rod (for example SS 316L).

For other alloys where no barrier layer is applied, PMI results shall meet the
specification of CRA material.

vii.

The finished surface of the components shall undergo LPT and shall be free of
any surface opening defects.

viii.

Weld overlay, where recommended, shall be done by either SS 316L or 6 Mo or


Inconel 625 materials. However Duplex SS and / or Super Duplex SS shall not be
used for weld overlay.

9.

POSITIVE MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION


Positive material identification (PMI) of alloy material components and weld, and weld
overlay shall be performed in accordance with document 15050901-000-00-QA-PRO-0008.

10.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

10.1 Valves
i)

Carbon Steel / Stainless steel gate valves shall conform to the requirement of
either API 6D, BS EN ISO 10434, API 600 and forged carbon steel / stainless steel
gate valves shall conform to API 602. All gate valves shall satisfy the KOC Standard
KOC-MP-013 entitled KOC Standard for Gate Valves and 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0010
entitled "Project Criteria to KOC-MP-013 Gate Valves.

ii)

Globe Valves shall conform to BS 1873 and Check valves to BS 1868. Steel Globe
and Check valve 1 and below shall conform to BS EN ISO 15761. All Steel Globe
and Check valve shall satisfy the applicable requirements of the KOC Standards
KOC-MP-014 entitled "KOC Standard for Globe Valves" and KOC-MP- 015 entitled
"KOC Standard for Check Valves" along with 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0011 entitled
''Project Criteria to KOC-MP-014 Globe Valves'' and 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0012
entitled ''Project Criteria to KOC-MP-015 Check Valves'''.

iii)

Butterfly valves shall conform to API 609 / BS EN 593.

iv)

Plug valves shall comply with API 599 or BS 5353 and KOC Standard KOC-MP-016
entitled, KOC Standard for Plug Valves and 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0013 entitled
''Project Criteria to KOC-MP-016 Plug Valves''.

v)

Plug valves are intended for use in services with entrained abrasive / sand.

vi)

Steel ball valves shall conform to API 6D or BS EN ISO 17292:2004. The applicable
requirements of KOC Standard, KOC-MP-033 Part 1 entitled, "KOC Standard for
Valves: Part 1-Ball Valves" and 11C8972-00-PE-SPC-0014 entitled ''Project Criteria
to KOC-MP-033 PART 1 - Ball Valves''.

vii)

Soft seated valves shall be limited to use for design temp at 200 Deg max.

viii)

All soft seated valves other than lined valves shall be fire safe design in
accordance with API 607, API 6FA, ISO 10497.

ix)

All valves shall be tested as per API 598 / BS EN 12266 (Parts 1 and 2). As per KOCMP-033 Part-I, ball valves hydro test shall be carried out as per API 6D.

Visual Inspection and Magnetic Particle Examination shall be made for all the
pressure parts as per MSS-SP-55 and MSS-SP-53. Critical sections of pressure
containing castings / forgings, as defined in Clause 8.3 of ASME B 16.34 shall be
radiographed / ultrasonic testing.

xi)

Manual gear operators shall be provided for frequently operated gate and globe
valves in the ratings and sizes listed below :

10.2 Pipes
i)

Wall thickness of metallic pipes for size 16 and below is based on ASME
B16.5/ASME B16.24 pressure temperature rating as per applicable material
group. Wall thickness for size 18 and above is calculated based on line design
conditions indicated on cover sheet of each piping class.

ii)

Minimum pipe wall thickness of RTRP shall be determined in accordance with


ratings specified in applicable Piping Material classes. In addition to the
requirements of this standard, all 'F' series pipe classes having RTRP pipe shall
meet the requirements of Attachment 1 of KOC Standard KOC-MP-011 Part 1
and Part 2.

iii)

Dimensions of carbon / Alloy steel pipe shall be in accordance with ASME


B36.10M and Stainless Steel, SDSS and Cu-Ni pipes shall be in accordance with
B36.19M. Dimensions of RTRP piping shall be as per ASTM D2996 (2 larger).

iv)

Pipe Schedules 5S, 60, 100 and 140 shall not be used unless there is significant
economic benefit to using these wall thicknesses. In such cases approval from
KOC is necessary.

v)

Pipe wall thickness calculations are carried out to withstand full vacuum
conditions for the pipe classes which are subjected to steam out conditions as
identified in Line List document.

vi)

Unless otherwise specified in the individual pipe classes, carbon steel pipe
shall be of seamless construction up to 20 NB. 24 NB and larger may be of
welded construction, as indicated. Stainless steel / SDSS pipe shall be of
seamless construction up to 4 NB. Sizes 6 NB and larger may be seamless or
welded construction.

vii)

All Welded Pipes shall be with 100% Radiographed.

viii)

Galvanizing for carbon steel pipes shall be as per ASTM A53 and for fittings and
flanges shall be in accordance with ASTM A123.

ix)

All butt weld end preparations shall be in accordance with ASME B 16.25. Pipe

10.3 Induction Bends


i)

Induction bends shall comply with the requirements of KOC-MS-002 entitled,


KOC Material Specification for Induction Bends along with 11C8972-PL-SPC0007 entitled "Pipeline Specification Project Specific Criteria to KOC Standard
KOC-MS-002 Induction Bends. For HP steam piping bends, the strength shall
be verified considering the requirement of steam service at design
temperature.

10.4 Flanges
i)

Flanges shall be socket weld, threaded or weld neck flanges as specified in


individual pipe classes of this specification.

ii)

Flanges 24 and smaller shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5. Flanges 26 and
larger shall conform to ASME B16.47 Series A.

iii)

Flat faced flanges shall be used to connect with equipment supplied with flat
faced flanges, cast iron flanges, ductile iron flanges and non-ductile materials
such as bronze or RTRP.

iv)

Permanent blinds, spectacle blinds, ring spacers and spades with flat / raised shall
be in accordance with ASME B16.48 and KOC standard drawing 55-04-69 for sizes
up to and including 24" NPS. For RTJ facing, thickness and dimension shall be as
per ASME B16.48. Sizes 26 NB & larger, shall be designed in accordance with ASME
B31.3, Cl304.5.2 & 304.5.3 with due allowance for corrosion on the wetted

Spectacle blinds shall be used to a maximum weight of 50KG. Spacer ring / Blind

10.5 Fittings
i)

Butt weld fittings shall be in accordance to ASME B16.9. Forged socket welded and
threaded fittings shall be in accordance with ASME B 16.11.

ii)

Reducing fittings, e.g., reducers, swages, tees, Olets etc., may have different wall
thicknesses at the ends relating to the different sizes. Components shall be
specified with ends to match the pipe wall thickness.

iii)

Butt-weld elbows shall be long-radius type. Short-radius elbows are not preferred
and shall only be used where space considerations dictate, and only with Company
approval.

iv)

Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, SDSS and Inconel welded fittings shall be subjected
to 100% radiography of welds.

v)

All Stainless Steel fittings shall be Dual Certified (SS316/SS316L)

10.6 Gaskets and Valve Stem Packings


i)

Unless otherwise specified, Gaskets shall be as per that specified in individual


piping class. These gaskets shall meet the requirements specified in KOC Standard
KOC-MP-031 Part 1 entitled KOC standard for Gaskets for pipe flanges, types,
design and materials

ii)

Compressed non-asbestos sheet gaskets to ASME B 16.21 consisting of aramid with


the inclusion of an elastomer or equivalent material suitable for service shall be
used in Class 150.

iii)

Spiral wound gaskets to ASME B16.20 with type 316 stainless steel windings or with
suitable inner ring and CS or SS outer ring with flexible graphite filler shall be used
in Class 300 and 600 LB. Flexible graphite as filler shall contain an inorganic
passivating inhibitor appropriate for the flange material and service.

iv)

All gaskets shall match flanges to ASME B16.5 for sizes up to and including 24 and
flanges to ASME B16.47 Series A for sizes 26 and above, unless other specified.

v)

Compressed non-asbestos fiber sheet gaskets shall be 1.5mm thick. Full-face


gaskets shall be used where flat face flanges are specified.

vi)

Spiral wound gaskets shall be 4.5mm thick to ASME B16.20 with a compressed
thickness of approximately 3.2mm with inner ring to suit service conditions and
outer ring of CS or SS material as specified in individual piping class. The Carbon
Steel centering shall be Galvanised or otherwise coated to inhibit atmospheric
corrosion.

vii)

The spiral wound gasket intended for class 150 shall be low stress type to avoid
over stress of the mating flanges when the gasket compress and seals the joint at
bolt load of 25000 psi or under.

viii)

Hardness of the ring joint gaskets shall be as specified n Table-4 of KOC Standard
KOC-MP-031 Part-1. For SDSS ring joint gaskets the hardness shall be maximum 220
BHN.

ix)

Valve stem packing shall be of non-asbestos material that is fire safe and shall
contain inhibitors to prevent valve stem pitting. Gaskets or packing containing
asbestos are prohibited.

Valve stem packing shall comply to the following, as applicable :


a) Bronze Valve: Packing shall be in accordance with the Manufacturers
standards.
b) Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel Valves: Valve packing shall be non-asbestos
material and fire safe. Packing shall be a five ring packing system consisting of
three grafoil pre-compressed and die-formed packing rings with graphite fiber
top and bottom stem wiper rings. The packing shall contain a corrosion
inhibitor to prevent valve stem pitting.

xi)

Where potential galvanic corrosion exist, flanged insulating kits sets consisting of
insulating gaskets, bolt sleeves and washer shall be utilized as per philosophy
stated in Material Selection Report (15050901-000-MT-REP-0001).

10.7 Bolting
i)

Unless otherwise specified, Bolting shall be as per that specified in individual


piping class.

ii)

Bolt materials shall be in accordance with ASME B 16.5, all bolts shall confirm to
ASME B 18.2.1 and nuts to ASME B 18.2.2.

iii)

Threads shall be coarse thread series to ASME B.1.1 (UNC threads up to 1 and 8UN
for 1 1/8 and larger dia) having Class 2A tolerance for bolts and studs and Class
2B tolerance for nuts.

iv)

Bolting shall be ASTM A193 Gr.B7 studs with ASTM A194 Gr.2H nuts for Non-sour
service as a minimum. For Sour service, bolting material shall be ASTM A193
Gr.B7M studs with ASTM A194 Gr.2HM nuts.

v)

All Alloy steel bolting shall be electro-zinc plated in accordance with ASTM B633.

vi)

Bolting used for services having design temperature above 2100 C shall not be
coated.

vii)

All nuts shall be of heavy hexagonal type.

viii)

Bolts for RTRP flanges shall be provided with washers and the length of the bolts
shall be calculated based on the thickness of the RTRP flanges, received from the
manufacturer of the RTRP piping items and the Special gaskets, if any.

stud bolt will be specified with an additional length equal to bolt diameter
required for hydraulic bolt tensioning equipment. Excess bolt length shall not be
produced unless hydraulic tightening is required.

NON DESTRUCTIVE EXAMINATION (NDE) REQUIREMENTS


The minimum requirements for NDE and Hardness Survey for various Piping classes
specified in this specification shall be in accordance with APPENDIX-I of this Specification.
