Sealing the Deal

Scotty Coach Norm Braaten had high-fives all around

as Glasgow got the job done Friday night in handling
Harlem 50-41. Down by as many as 13 points midway
through the second quarter, the Scotties slowly clawed
their way back into the game and trailed the Wildcats
31-29 heading into the fourth quarter. It was Super
Hero Night, and if we were to pick a hero, it would have
to be Chase Hughes, as he hit four clutch freethrows
with under a minute left to help seal the deal.
The victory over Harlem also guaranteed the
Scotty boys a trip to the Boys Northern B Divisional
Tournament in Malta. With only five teams in the
District 2B Tournament, there will be a play-in game.
Right now, it looks like this, according to GHS Athletic

Director Brenner Flaten: Malta #1, Glasgow #2, Poplar

#3, Harlem #4 and Wolf Point #5. Harlem and Poplar
could switch since they play each other. Wolf Point and
either Harlem or Poplar will play in the play-in game.
The Scotty girls, whipping up on the Wildcats 63-40 on
Friday night, also have a lock on Divisional: Malta #1,
Glasgow #2, Wolf Point #3, Harlem #4 and Poplar #5.
Poplar has the chance to move to number 4, but either
way Harlem and Poplar will play the play-in game.
The Scotties finish up the regular season on the road,
traveling to Malta this Thursday and to Wolf Point on
Friday, and will then host the District 2B Tournament
slated for February 25-27.

16th Annual MonDak Pulse Plus Day in Wolf Point

All interested producers are
invited to attend the 16th Annual
MonDak Pulse Day, which has been
set for Tuesday, February 16 at the
Elks Club in Wolf Point, MT to learn
about the latest on the production,
marketing, and utilization of pulse
crops. Registration for the event will
begin at 8:30 am Mountain or 9:30
am Central time with the program
beginning hour later. Registration
fee are $20 per person, payable at the
door.
With pulse crops being one of
the few crops that project a positive
return for the 2016 growing season,
it is anticipated that pulse crop acres
will expand in 2016 and the theme
for this years Pulse Day is Keys to a
Successful Pulse Crop.
One of the keys to successful
pulse crop production is weed
control. Brian Jenks, North Dakota
State University Weed Scientist
with the North Central Research
Extension Center in Minot, ND,
and Ed Davis, Agriculture Specialist
in Cropland Weed Research from
Montana State University will cover
topics and issue related to weed

control in pulse crops including the

increasing problem with narrowleaf
hawksbeard.
Also on the agenda will be Dr.
Frayne Olson, NDSU Extension Crop
Marketing Economist. Dr. Olson
conducts programs and research in
crop marketing and market analysis,
crop contracting, and risk management
and will be providing a market outlook
for pulse crops.
As there are some disease
considerations with pulse crop
production, Mary Burrows, plant
pathology specialist from Montana
State University Extension will discuss
Pulse Disease Diagnostics. There will
also be a variety and research update
and discuss on other considerations
for successful pulse crop production
from MSU specialists and extension
agents.
A pulse crop industry update
will be provided by Shannon Berndt,
executive director of the Northern
Pulse Growers Association. One
important item that should be noted
in regard to the pulse crop industry
is that 2016 has been declared the
International Year of the Pulses by

the United Nations. This designation

is designed to promote the value
and utilization of pulse crops, raise
awareness of their health benefits, foster
enhanced research capabilities, and
show the complementation of pulses
in crop rotations. It is anticipated that
this year long event will give longevity
to pulses in the North American diet
with the potential for greatly increased
demand.
An expanded trade show being
coordinated by the Northern Pulse
Growers Association will also be held
in conjunction with Pulse Day with 25
to 30 exhibitors expected for the show.

Door prize drawings will be held
throughout the day with the program
expected to conclude around 2:30 pm.
MonDak Pulse Day is open
to the public and was organized by
MSU & NDSU Extension Agents
in northeastern Montana and
northwestern North Dakota with the
program annually rotating between
Montana and North Dakota. For more

contact the any of the local county
extension offices in northeastern
Montana.

Is technology screwing up society?

I sit out here on the hill, all by myself, except for
some occasional TV and the INTERNET.

The internet has become my lifeline to the world,
but it has also become a source of a very daunting
question........... Are people REALLY that damned
stupid?
The head honcho in Germany comes to
mind..........She wants to do wonderful stuff..........
help out the less fortunate, the poor refugees.......
then when they terrorize her country.....blame the
citizenry..........???
American Liberals who stand up for, and
support Black Lives Matter when they terrorize
communities, but object when Americans stand up
against the Bureau of Land Management........any
coincidence they are both the BLM?
Have we been given too much? Is life so easy
that a little bump in the road needs to be answered
by The Government will take care of it?. Im kind
of feeling like the Uni-Bomber in that Im feeling
technology may be screwing up society.
Im one of those people who grew up playing
outside, not on a playstation or xbox or computer or
smartphone. Is that why I see things differently, or is
it just old age?
I see people on TV pleading for the masses to
help out some charity with a cash donation, and
statistically, those that donate the most are the ones
who can least afford it. Why dont those rich celebs
just write a check and keep their mouths shut?
Im also troubled by folks who try and stuff
their thinking down your throat. Dont try and sell
me with surveys and polls, I spent years in the radio
business and learned how those kind of numbers can
be manipulated.

If my understanding of things is so far off, why
is it all my friends and neighbors feel the same way?
I hate it when some politician or celebrity gets on TV
and says the American people feel...............bullshit,
they never talked to me.
So if you ever wonder why some Vets choose
to take their own lives take a look at how society is
treating America.

The wrestling season came to a screeching halt for some of our Scotty grapplers this past Saturday. The good news
is that the post season continues for our two seniors, and a young team gets more opportunities in the years ahead.

Four Scotties qualify for

State Wrestling Tourney

Glasgow was in Poplar for the Eastern B/C Wrestling
Tournament this past Saturday where the Colstrip Colts
galloped away with the team title in scoring 232.5 points
and are no doubt poised at winning the state title.

Huntley Project was in a very distant second with
127 points; Shepherd 115; Baker 88; Glasgow in fifth
with 87; Forsyth 86; Broadus 34; Circle 31; Wolf Point
25; and Poplar 19.
Individually, four Scotties wrestled their way to
State. Gabe Hallock (103 pounds) and Matt Reyling
(113 pounds) became the 170th & 171st Divisional
Wrestling Champions in school history on Saturday.

Also making the trip are seniors Mick Reyling and
Cody King. Mick placed 2nd at 138 pounds and Cody
took 3rd at 145 pounds.
At 126 pounds, junior Kasey Seyfert placed 5th;
160 pounds, freshman Alex Hallock 6th; 170 pounds,
freshman Trevor Overvold 5th; 182 pounds, freshman
Terrick Sanders 6th; and at 205 pounds, freshman Jaden
Hughes 6th.
Matt, Gabe, Mick and Cody will now represent
Glasgow this coming weekend at the All Class Wrestling
Tournament at the Billings Metra.
