INT. CASTING OFFICE LOBBY - DAY

CATHERINE sits patiently waiting for her turn to audition.
She is reading her script intently. Another actress, TINA,
enters and sits next Catherine. Tina appears distracted.
TINA
Wow! There sure are a lot of people here.
I had to park 4 blocks away. How long
have you been waiting?
CATHERINE
Oh, I got here about 10 minutes ago.
TINA
I hope its not going to take long, my
parking meter is for only thirty minutes.
That doesnt make sense. Why have a
casting office with no parking lot and
only short term meters on the street?
Catherine just smile and gets back to studying. There is only
a momentary pause for silence.
TINA
So, whO are you reading for?
CATHERINE
Julia Dieter.
TINA
Really? So am I.
The silent pause is longer as Tina pulls out her script and
begins to read. Both give side glances at each other. Theyre
checking out the competition.
CASTING DIRECTOR (O.C.)
Catherine! Good to see you! Were really
looking forward to your read. Well have
you in as soon as possible.
CATHERINE
Thanks, Mark. Looking forward to it.
Tina feigns a smile.
TINA
You know him?
CATHERINE
Oh, Mark? Yeah, he cast me in Saints of
the City. Great guy.

Another moment of silence.

TINA
Im so glad Julia is a New Yorker. I used
to lived in New York, so the accent is a
breeze. How about you?
CATHERINE
I grew up in Chicago, but spent a lot of
time in New York. I did a few Broadway
gigs before moving here.
Tina goes back to her script and begins reading the lines
slightly out loud to her self in an exaggerated New York
accent.
TINA
Jason! I deserve better than this!
Catherine laughs to herself.
What?
What?
Nothing.

TINA
CATHERINE
TINA

Tina goes back to reading, this time its a little louder and
the accent is thicker.
TINA
I gave you the best part of my life and
you do this to me? Who is she?
Catherine snorts trying to hold back her laughter.
TINA
Something wrong?
CATHERINE
What? No, I was just going over page 76.
I just love the irony in that scene.
Tina flips the pages to find that page. She takes moment to
read it.
TINA
Oh, yeah. Theres a lot of irony in that
scene. Kind of funny.

CATHERINE
Yeah, its ironic.
Tina goes back to her reading aloud.
TINA
Jason! I deserve better than this!
Catherine laughs even louder.
TINA
What? You see another scene with irony?
Catherine laughs even louder.
TINA
You gotta problem?
CATHERINE
No, no ...its just...
Catherine laughter becomes uncontrollable.
Just what?

TINA

CATHERINE
Nothing, really, its nothing.
TINA
Wait, are you laughing at me?
No.

CATHERINE

Catherine, now breathless.

Yes.

CATHERINE
Tina stands up and speak with a typical angry New Yorker
tone.
TINA
Really? You bitch.
Tina walks off Catherines laughter stops abruptly as she
gives an hateful stare at Tina. She finds her focus again.
