Introduction
In this report I will be talking about how learners need to used different file
formats different compression techniques and different image resolutions and
colour depths I will also be discussing different file formats.

Photoshop file
Photoshop is a piece of software image editing software it is manufactured by
Adobe systems Inc. It is normally used by photographers because of the huge
variety of editing options it offers it cost around 400 700.Photoshop allows you
to develop and edit images. To crop resize and colour digital images. Out of the
two bitmap and Photoshop, Photoshop is definitely better when it comes to
editing because when it is saved the image loses less of its quality.

Bitmap Graphics
Bitmap is pieces of software e.g. paint. Paint is a very basic computer graphics
program that has been included in all versions of Microsoft windows it allows you
to create and edit images can convert a bitmap image into a vector. Vector
image can be transformed into a bitmap. Bitmap allows you to edit and images.
When paint images are saved as default 01P2G it is compatible with other
programs but also loses a lot of its quality.

GIF
(Graphic interchange format) it is a form of bit map image. GIF is lossless data
compressed it uses LZW to reduce file size but keep the quality it supports up to
8 bits of data per pixel for each image. Another upside is that it supports
animation. The way GIF works is by playing a sequence of images to make a
basic animation.

JPEG
(Joint photographic experts group) this is a very popular form of lossy
compression for digital images. It allows the images to be manually compressed
and therefore save storage space the images do loose some of their quality. JPEG
works better with paintings and digital images the JPEG file is supported on all
major operating system. Because colours dramatically change on digital images
the JPEG format is not well suited for them there is also a lack of things for
transparency and animation.

TIFF
(Tagged image file format) a tiff file can be compressed to reduce the file size,
while maintaining the image quality. It can also be saved without being
compressed and retaining 100% of the image file size.

Compression techniques
There are two compression techniques which includes lossy and lossless I am
going to be discussing how these affect images.

lossy compression is defined as the method of removing data from an image to

make the file smaller it is done by putting larger areas of the same colour into
colour blocks which then deletes colour in s discrete way.
Lossless compression is the opposite of lossy compression. this is the process of
preserving an image the process is done by compressing the image by using
compression algorithms it then breaks down the picture and restores it which
then leaves a high quality uncompressed image. The process is useful for when
you are sending an email where there is a file size limit.

Resolution
The resolution of an image is dependent on the amount of points that make up
that image; the amount of pixels on the screen that you are viewing the image
on will also affect the image resolution, the more pints that are used to create an
image the better the quality.
When it comes to the file formats the larger the larger the image file the better
the quality of the image if the image file size is small then the quality of the
image is going to be worse. A downside of a large image file size is that it may
take up a lot of space on your device.

Colour depth
Colour depth is the way of describing the maximum colours in an image; the
more colours used in the image the better quality this will affect the final size of
the image there are various different colour depths .here are different colour
depths;
-16 Bit Colour this format uses two Bytes to store the information, one Byte for
the colour and one Byte for the shade of the colour. So 65,536 colours
(256256).
-24 Bit Colour This format stores the Red, Green and Blue for each pixel. So 256
values for each colour so giving a total of 16,777,216 colours (256x256x256).
Having 16 million colours allows the quality of the image to be realistic and good
quality however as the colour depth is higher and there are more colours that
mean that the storage space will also increase.
-32 Bit Colour (True Colour) This colour depth is known as True Colour, this
format uses the same format as above for the Red, Green and Blue colours but
also stores transparency information for each pixel.

Original
This is the original image that I will be using to
show the difference you can make when
changing the file type of an image the colour
depth and the resolution and how all those
affect the quality and download speed of the
image in the end.

JPEG
I decide to change this image file type to a
JPEG this resulted in the image the image
quality being 60 the file size being 146.3K
and the download speed of the image being
27secs which is the least amount of time
compared to all the other file formats the
colour depth of this image is, the amount of
points that make up this image are 56.6kbps
which is an okay amount of pixels so this
creates a great resolution for whether the
image is printed or put on the on the

PNG

GIF

I chose to change the file type of this

image to PNG and as a result of that
the image size is now 438k which is
smaller than the JPEG file it has an
80sec download speed it is at a 100%
dither and the c9olour depth is at
256.

I decided to change the file type of this

image to an GIF as a result of this the
size of the image changed to being
219.5k which is allot smaller than the
other file types and also the colour depth
is 64 and also the dither is at 88%.
