Neural Plasticity

Special Issue on
Plasticity of the GABAergic System in Physiology
and Disease

CALL FOR PAPERS

GABAergic neurons are critical in the control of neuronal activity in the mammalian
central nervous system. Strong evidence links the activity of GABA-mediated
inhibitory synapses control with all CNS functions, including vegetative, perceptual,
motor, associative, executive, and emotional function, as well as memory and learning. Their physiological activity is subject to plasticity in a number of parameters like
input and output synaptic activity, firing pattern, density and distribution pattern of
membrane and cytosolic proteins, and gene expression. According to its functional
importance, dysfunction of the GABAergic system is implicated in the etiology of
a number of neurological disorders such as epilepsy, movement disorders, anxiety,
and depression, as well as in neurodevelopmental syndromes like schizophrenia and
autism.

We invite investigators to submit original research and review articles that address
the entire range of mechanisms related to plasticity of the GABAergic system.
We encourage manuscripts dealing with epigenetic changes in gene expression
in GABAergic neurons, alterations in GABA receptor trafficking, changes in
mechanisms of GABA release, neuromodulation at GABAergic synapses, and longterm changes in synaptic plasticity.
A special regard will be considered for reports of GABAergic plasticity in human
disease, animal models, and corresponding treatment or therapeutics.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
Alterations in GABAA-receptor trafficking
Changes in GABAergic neurons firing properties
Physiology and modulation of long-term potentiation/depression (LTP/D) at
GABAergic synapses
Mechanisms of epilepsy
Maladaptive GABAergic plasticity in neurodevelopmental disease
GABAergic plasticity in depression and anxiety syndromes
GABAergic system plasticity in the dysregulation of movement control
Authors can submit their manuscripts via the Manuscript Tracking System at
