ThissectioncoverstherequirementandstepstoinstallPIPESIM.
Important: If you plan to run FPT, you must install PIPESIM so anyone who
uses your computer can run PIPESIM.

notinstalledonyoursystem,itisinstalledduringtheinstallation
process.
PCwithneweroperatingsystems,suchasWindows7,havethis
applicationinstalledalready.
Note: The slbsls daemon does not require .NET, but it does
require the VS runtimes to be installed-

1. Checkthatyouhaveadministratoraccessonthetargetmachine.
2. Checkthatthereisadequatespaceavailableonthedisk.

To install PIPESIM

1. UninstallanypreviousversionsofPIPESIM.
SeeAppendix2:UninstallingpreviousversionsofPIPESIM.
2. LoadthePIPESIMCD.
Note:Iftheinstallationwizarddoesnotautomaticallystart,doubleclickSetup.exe.
3. ClickInstallProducts.
4. ClickPIPESIMandthenclickInstallPIPESIM.
5. Unlessyouareinstallingonanetwork,selectClientinstallation.
Note:OnlyperformanAdminInstallifyouwishtouploadthePIPESIMCDimagetoacentrallocationfor
laterclientinstallations.
6. ClickNext.
7. AcceptthelicensetermsandconditionsandclickNext.
8. Entertheuserinformation(optional)andclickNext.
9. AccepttheDestinationFolderinformation(c:\ProgramFiles\Schlumberger\.....)orchoosethe
appropriatefolderandclickNext.
10. SelecttheSetupTypeComplete(thedefault)orCustom.ClickNext.
11. ClickInstalltoproceed.
TheInstallShieldWizardinstallsPIPESIM.
12. ClickFinishandrebootthemachinetoconcludetheinstallation.

To configure the license using Schlumberger Licensing software

RefertoAppendix5:ConfiguringSchlumbergerLicensing.
To configure the License File on a local machine

1. LaunchSchlumbergerLicensing(Start>Programs>Schlumberger>SchlumbergerLicensing2011.1>
SchlumbergerLicensing).
2. ClickAddlicensefileintheSchlumbergerLicensingwindow.
3. BrowsetoselectthelicensefileobtainedandclickOK.
ThelicensefileshowsintheLocalLicenseFileboxintheSchlumbergerLicensingwindow.Ifyourlicense
filecontainsaspecificportnumber,itshowsinPortnumber.Notethe@localhostentryinAll
licenseserversforLM_LICENSE_FILE.
4. TostarttheSchlumbergerLicensingServiceautomaticallywhenthemachineisrebooted,selectthe
StartautomaticallywithWindowscheckbox.
5. ClickApply.
Ifserviceislaunchedsuccessfully,youwillseethemessageLocalserversuccessfullystarted.
6. ClickOK.
7. Toviewthelicenses,clickStatus.
8. ToexitfromSchlumbergerLicensing,clickOK.
To point to a License Server

WhenthereisalreadyaFlexlmLicenseServerrunninginthelocalnetwork,thelicenseserviceisconfigured
onthelocalmachinebypointingtothatservice.Dothefollowing:
1. LaunchSchlumbergerLicensing.
Start>Programs>Schlumberger>SchlumbergerLicensing2011.1>SchlumbergerLicensing
2. IntheAlllicenseserversforLM_LICENSE_FILEbox,entertheport@server_name.
3. ClickApply.
4. Toexit,clickOK.

To uninstall a previous version

1. UsetheAddorRemoveProgramstoolintheWindowsControlPanel.
2. EarlierversionsofPIPESIMwritetotheregistry,andsomeofthisinformationisnotremovedwhenthe
programisuninstalled.Therefore,itmaybenecessarytoedittheregistryusingregedittodeletekeys
inthefollowingareas:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Schlumberger\PIPESIM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Schlumberger\PIPESIM
3. IfyouencounterproblemswithMultiflash,youmayalsoneedtoeditkeysinthefollowingarea:

ThissectionexplainshowtoobtainandinstallthePIPESIMlicenses.
Flexlm

PIPESIM2011.1securityisbasedonMacrovisionFlexlm.Flexlmcallsareauthorizedbytheprovisionoftext
basedencryptedlicensefiles.ThesefilesarelockedtoeithertothehostIDofthemachine(MACID;this
informationcanbeobtainedbyrunningthecommandIPCONFIG/allonDOSprompt),oraspecialUSB
DonglewithadongleID(alsoreferredasFlexID).LicensefilescaneitherbeStandAloneLicensefilesor
ServerLicensefiles.
AlicensefileforaspecificMACIDwillonlyworkonthatspecificmachine.Similarly,fileswithaFlexID(USB
DongleID)requiretherelevantdongletobepluggedin.UsingaFlexID(USBDongleID)makeslicensingthe
machineindependent,flexibleandportablesolongasthelicensefileiscarriedontoanothermachine.
PIPESIMhasanumberofcomponentsthatarelicensedseparately.Thesefeaturescanbeincorporatedin
thelicensefileaseitherFEATURESorINCREMENTS.Forexample,tolaunchthePIPESIMinterface(GUI)you
willneedtohavePIPESIMfeaturesinthelicensefile;tousethenetworkengineyouwillrequirePIPESIM
andNetEnginefeaturesintheLicensefile.
Tosetupthestandalonenodelockedtypelicense,dooneofthefollowing:

Settheenvironmentvariable.
a. GotoStart>Settings>ControlPanel>System>Advanced>EnvironmentVariables.
b. SettheLM_LICENSE_FILEuserenvironmentvariabletothevalidlicensefilewithitsdefinedpath.
Forexample,c:\slb\license.dat).

UsetheSchlumbergerLicensingManager.
a. UnderAlllicenseserversforLM_LICENSE_FILE,enterthevalidlicensefile(withitsdefinedpath
asc:\slb\license.dat).
b. ClickAddLicenseServer.
Note: These steps are for standalone node-locked type licenses. For all other licenses, refer to Appendix
5: Configuring Schlumberger Licensing.

USB Dongle for PC Licensing

EachUSBDonglecomeswithauniqueIDwhichisengravedontheUSBdongleitself.TheUSBDonglelicense
canbestandalone(makingthemachineportableandindependent)orservertype,whereonemachineon
thenetworkisusedasalicenseserver.
USBDonglesrequirehardwaredevicedrivers(shippedwithPIPESIMCD).Therearetwotypesofdevice
driver:

FlexUSBdriveriftheUSBDongleIDstartswithaprefixof9xxxxxxxx,installUSBFlexDrivers.
Dallasdrivers.ifUSBDongleIDstartswith8xxxxxxxxx,installDallasdrivers.

MostcommonandrecentdonglesareAladdinUSBDongleswhichrequiresFlexUSBdriversandare
compatiblewithWindowsXPandWindows2008.Refertothefollowinginstructionsforinstallingdevice
drivers.
To install the USB Dongle Driver

BorrowFlexallowsuserstocheckoutlicensefeaturesontheirmachine.Featurescanonlybecheckedoutif
thelicensefileitselfhastheBORROWkeywordinitslicensestring.Theborrowperiodisrestrictedtoa
maximumofsixdaysorlessfromthedateofcheckout.Checkedoutfeaturescannotbereturnedearly.The
minimumborrowperiodis24hrsbydefault.
Bydefault,duplicatefeaturesborrowedorcheckedoutonthesamedatearenotpermitted.However,
cautionisrequiredtoexerciseBorrowidenticalfeatureonalaterdate,aseachcheckedoutfeatureor
Borrowdecrementsthelicensefeaturenumber.

1. LaunchBorrowFlexStart>Programs>Schlumberger>PIPESIM>Utilities>FlexlmBorrowingUtility.
2. Selectthedatetoborrowuntil.
3. ClickBorrow.

IfBorrowissuccessful,thefollowingmessage(forillustrationpurposeonly)willappear.

4. ClickOKtocontinue.
5. LaunchPIPESIM.
6. Loadandrunthecase(s)requiredtoruninBorrowmode.
Thisperformsautomaticfeaturesborrowing.CloseandexitfromPIPESIM.
7. ExitBorrowFlex.
ThisterminatestheBorrowsessiononthemachine.
8. LaunchBorrowFlex.
Thecheckedoutfeaturesarelistedwiththeirexpirationdate.

Appendix 5: Configuring Schlumberger Licensing

Toavoidpotentialconflict,pleaseensurethatallpreviousversionsofPIPESIMlicensesareremoved.
To add a Flex License using the Configuration Utility

1. SelectStart>Programs>Schlumberger>SchlumbergerLicensing2011.1>SchlumbergerLicensing.
TheSchlumbergerlicensingdialogopens.

2. ClickAddLicenseFile.
3. Navigatetothefolderwherethelicensefilehasbeencopied.
4. ClickOpen.

TheConfigurationutilityeditsthefiletoensurethefollowing:

ThecorrectmachinehostnameisincludedontheSERVERline.
USESERVERisaddedtothelicensefile.
TheportnumberissetontheSERVERline.

To configure your software installation to use a network license server, add the license server
