Miskin Theatre Assignment

On completion of this project you should:
Unit 17- Developing Voice for the Actor
1. Know the principles of voice production and vocal health
2. Be able to participate in and be able to contribute to voice class
3. Be able to demonstrate vocal technique in performance
THE BRIEF
You will, along with the directors, form an ensemble company to produce and perform The Crucible by Arthur Miller. There will be four public performances by the company
between 16th and 19th March 2016. There may be additional performances to schools as a result of your own promotion as a company, and these matinee performances may
be accompanied by a Q and A session with the audience. You will take part in a range of performance workshops to extend your skills with a particular focus on voice, arts
business and the healthy performer, in addition to researching, exploring and rehearsing a piece for public performance that honours the spirit of Millers story. You will also
work as a company to develop additional devised sections, musical pieces and physical set pieces.
The process will be skill based, providing you with the training and the basic tools required for creating a piece of ensemble theatre. You will gain skills in physical theatre,
voice, large scale ensemble work, choral work, storytelling, improvisation and approaches to text. Your company will be expected to take responsibility for promoting their
own work to schools and other local organisations as well as the general public. You will be expected to demonstrate the importance of a whole company approach and will
be expected to work in a professional and mature manner of an artist.
As an actor, you will learn about voice production and investigate the interaction of the speech organs and how to explore how the actors whole body influences the quality of
voice produced. You will look at vocal health and how to maintain a healthy voice through classes and rehearsals and finally a performance of The Crucible.
Individual contribution to the rehearsal and devising process is essential, but we must also work together and establish a solid theatre company. We will have a short and
intensive rehearsal period on this project so close collaboration with your directors, the technical team and each other is essential to the success of the final ensemble. A
detailed personal scrapbook as well as a comprehensive contribution to the online blog site is essential in order to map and record your progress and your development as
a company member and as a performer.
Professional Practice: Please be aware that you will be putting professional practice into action within The Miskin Theatre, which is a publicly licensed professional
environment in which you are effectively an intern being given the opportunity to publicly test your skills and gain creditable industrial experience.
