History Essay

The second world war set the stage for those who create history and those who follow in
its footsteps. Adolf Hitler started out as a homeless unsuccessful artist and when on to be the
infamous leader of Nazi Germany. Benito Mussolini when from being a schoolmaster to creating
the political ideology of fascism in which he would use to reform the failing democratic
government of Italy during world war two. Both of these men are known for their facist beliefs
and their involvement in the Second World War but the biggest difference between them is that
Benito Mussolini created history and Adolf Hitler was simply a product of it.
Adolf Hitler was one of the most appalling figures of the second world war, he is
so infamous that his name is directly linked to one of the most grotesque atrocities the world has
ever seen . However Before 1918 The name Adolf Hitler didnt mean anything to anyone in
Germany, Hitler was a nobody. He got his start by standing in the middle of a beer hall in
Germany and ranting about the things that he believes to be the cause of not only his misery but
the German populations as well. At the time Germany was in a state of total economic
destruction due to the cost of the first world war, the War Guilt Clause and the reparations that
Germany was forced to pay as a result of the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler would use this to his
advantage claiming that the jews were to blame for the economic state of germany. There was
only one problem , most people thought Hitler to be very radical and extreme and without the
help of the German Workers Party he would have never have come into power. Adolf Hitler was
simply a product of history. He was just a poor hateful anti-semite that just happened to express
his outrageous beliefs in just the right beer hall, because without the help from the German
Workers Party he would have been just another nobody.
Benito Mussolini was the father of fascism and the ruler of fascist Italy. He created
fascism in hopes to help Italy return to the level it was at in its glorious Roman past. After the
creation of the National Fascist Party Mussolini built himself an army which he called the
blackshirts, the blackshirts mainly consisted of thugs and other unsavory characters which
would become his metaphorical teeth in the march on Rome. The march on Rome took place
during the night of the 27th and 28th of october in which Mussolini sought to takeover the
government of Italy by force. This resulted in the king of Italy asking Mussolini to form a new
government, furthermore the king appointed Mussolini as the prime minister of Italy. The king
appointed Mussolini prime minister intending to use him to stabilize Italy and avoid civil war, the
king had failed to foresee the totalitarian evolution in Italy which ultimately left him powerless
and placed Mussolini into a position of ultimate power. Benito Mussolini was a creator of history.
He started at the bottom of the pile where he created the political ideology of fascism and
pushed it to gain popularity. Once he gained enough followers he forced the king of Italy out of
power and forced himself in. He took an unstable young democracy and destroyed it only to
reform it into a fascist state where he would reign as the supreme ruler.
As a result of his foul play and underhanded political maneuvering, Adolf Hitler would
leave behind a image of unparalleled infamy. It is important however to distinguish the vital
differences between the legacy of delusional grandeur that Hitler left and the dignified legacy of
valor that Benito Mussolini molded for himself in his pioneering and cultivation of fascism. In
becoming the father of fascism, Benito Mussolini would set off a chain of events that would
unleash upon the world a storm of radical believers willing to take extreme measures for the

prosperity of their country. Without Mussolinis monumental policies, Adolf Hitler would have
been left a delusional, anti-semitic, homeless artist.
