Informational Text Container Project


This project is your response to the article that you were required to read this week.
Read the following directions and complete by the required due date. You will share your
projects with the class!
The Outside:
1)
Choose any container for your project: a folder, manilla envelope, paper bag,
plastic bag, can with a cover, bucket with a lid, box, or any other container that you can
come up with.
2)
Decorate the container with details appropriate to the articles or containers
contents. (+10)
The Inside:
The inside of the container should include the following materials and activities
pertaining to the book:
1. Quiz - Create an original 10-question, multiple choice quiz of the article.
Be sure to supply an answer key. You may look at the ones from the reading as
examples, but you must create your own questions. (+10)
2. Cast of Characters Create a list of the main characters/speakers and
supply a two-sentence description of each. Some details to include might be the
individuals appearance, personality traits, interests, and so on. (+10)
3. Important Items Choose five items that depict the article in some way.
These items may be actual items or student created replicas. Place these items in
your container. On another piece of paper, explain in a paragraph why you chose
to include these items, their importance within the story, their meaning to the
speakers/characters, etc. (+25)
4. Letter How would Bigger respond to the information in your particular
article? Write a letter from Biggers perspective to the person who wrote your
informational text. How would he respond? Keep it rated G. (+15)
5. Connections In at least 1 paragraph, respond to the following
questions: How does the information presented in your article relate to Native
Son? What similarities do the texts share? What differences do they have? How
did your article help with your understanding of the novel? (+12)
6. Literary Elements With your partner, complete the Literary Elements
Graphic Organizer as it relates to your assigned article. (+18)

words (diction) he chooses. What is
the overall effect of the way he writes?
Simple, involved,
poetic, humorous, pedantic, child-like?
How does it contribute to the authors
message and the overall effect the author
wishes to create?

Tone
The authors attitude towards what (s)he is
writing that translates into your attitude: or

feeling of the whole work and the
writing/artist's craft?
