Lesson Objective 1:

When given 10 problems using numbers 2-5 as a base, Daisy Belle will use the 4 step strategy and solve with
100% accuracy over 2 consecutive times
Things Youll Need:
- Whiteboard
- Dry erase marker
- Mastery measure for accuracy part of lesson
- Behavior expectations poster
II.
Lesson Opening (2:30 2:35)
Call students to attention: Lets get started.
Go over behavior expectations poster by reading each rule and having the students repeat after you
and give explanations and examples.
Follow Directions
Answer on signal.
Raise your hand to talk.

Tell students todays plan and goal:
Today we are going to extend our knowledge on exponents and learn how to solve exponents with
numbers 2-5 as the base

Now we are going to work on strategies that you dont know. Get ready to
begin.
READ STATEMENTS
(Write these problems on the board)

statements at a rate of a statement each 3 seconds)
READ STATEMENTS WITH ANSWERS ERASED
Now Im going to erase the answers. Now read the statement and tell me the
answer.

To correct: Respond with students until they can respond without assistance.
SAY STATEMENTS
Now Ill make it even harder and erase everything. Get ready to say the
statements starting with 3 2. (snap to set the pace for students)
Repeat until students respond correctly, then do individual turns.

RANDOM FACT DRILL


Write facts in random order on the board.

When I signal, say the whole statement and the answer.


Point to the left of -8 (-4) pause 2 seconds, then touch board.
Repeat step 2 with remaining facts
Repeat steps 2 and 3 with only a 1-second pause
Repeat step 4 until student can respond to all facts with a 1-second pause.

Hand out practice worksheet (the top half of the worksheet).


Give directions: When I point to the problem, you will read the problem in your head and say the
answer. Remember to say the answer only when I touch the problem.
Students will say the answer to each problem when you touch it.
If the students make an error, begin again at the first problem. Repeat until students can say all
problems correctly.

Give the attached mastery measure for the -4 facts. Score results and put data in the data table below
