Introduction
Can you imagine not being able to get water whenever you want?
Can you imagine having to walk miles to get water? 57% of the earths
population has to walk more than 2 miles to get even the smallest drop of
water. And most of it is still contaminated. In this article, I will explain this
problem, and people who help. First, I will state some facts about the
topic. Next, I will introduce my first teen activist that has and still is
making a big impact on the Earth. Then I will explain in many ways how
you can help this situation. After that, I will state a few solutions to the
problem. Finally, I will reveal the effects of dirty water. My evidence will
illustrate what people go through each day in their life, and what people
are doing to help them.

Facts about clean water issues

Did you know that of all schools lack access to clean, safe, and
sanitized water? 84% of water related deaths happen to children. We need
this madness to stop! All together, women and children spend more than
125 million hours each day collecting water, and only 2.5% of the Earths
water is clean. Around 70% of industrial pollution is dumped into the
water. The graph above shows how many people lack access to clean
water around the world. It also shows where in the world lacks access to
sanitary facilities. According to the article,
Global Water Crisis: and
Sanitation Facts,
In low and middle-income countries, 1/3 of all
healthcare facilities lack a safe water source.(Global water Crisis) This
global water crisis is something that needs to be stopped sooner rather
than later.

Activists Story
Boyan Slat is a 20 year old activist that has found a way to clean the
oceans. He is the CEO of the Ocean Cleanup, which will be the worlds
first ocean cleanup system. Boyan announced that this cleanup system
will be deployed in 2016. In the text by Slat, the author states, the system,
which involves a static platform that
passively corrals plastics as wind and
ocean currents push debris through
2000-meter booms, will be the longest
floating structure ever deployed in the
ocean. Soon, this brilliant cleaning
contraption will be deployed in Tsushima,
Japan. After this crucially needed
cleanup, the Pacific ocean will be much
cleaner.

What you can do to help

Have you ever thought about how you can help with the clean water
issue? There are many ways that you can help without even realizing it!
For example, instead of washing your car in your driveway, bring it to a
commercial location such as a car wash. They have a special water runoff
system that cleans the water before it gets released into lakes in streams.
Those lakes and streams lead out to the ocean, or a big body of water at
some point. (Keeping California Water Clean) Another way that you can
help is when you are watering your lawn or garden. If sprinklers run for too
long or shoot too far, then you can adjust your sprinkler. The water runoff
carries animal waste, and fertilizer into sewers. This also happens when
you are hosing off concrete. Instead of hosing it off, try and use a broom
instead. These are just a few of many different ways that you can help
with dirty water issues. Why don't you try them?

Solution to the problem

Rebekah Bolser is a teen activist that has always been passionate
about issues. She got started with dirty water issues when she started
working with the International Youth Council. They made an online
resource kit so others can help with this issue. She learned that more
people die from water related issues than all forms of violence, including
war. She thinks it is easy to see the difference clean water would make
on the world.(Bolster) Rebekah knows how many people clean water
would save. She knows how many people die from water related diseases
every day. Rebekah was worried about all the people that dont have clean
water. She thinks that it is unfair that only women and children clean the
water. It is unfair that they need to walk so far to get clean water, too.
Instead of walking the whole day to get it, they could be going to school,
or getting a job. This would help build a better economy. It would also be
easier to provide a living for their family.

The effects of dirty water

The effects of dirty water are significant because it causes way too
many diseases, and many people get sick from consuming
(eating/drinking food or drink) the dirty water. Because of these
outcomes, it is important that the water gets cleaned before even more
people get sick. The worst part about these illnesses is that there is
usually no doctor around to take care of them. There is also no cure, so if
it gets really bad, they will probably die. If we dont act fast, then in
places like Pakistan, the population will keep decreasing. Did you know
that more than 663 million people lack access to clean water? This is
more than one sixteenth of Earths population! By comparison,
Nearly
two million children a year die for want of clean water and proper
sanitation while the world's poor often pay more for their water than
people in Britain or the US, according to a major new report.(freewaters)
Why do the poor need to pay more? This is definitely not fair.

Conclusion
In conclusion, eventually, I want the world to not have to search for
clean water. I used to think that not many people lacked access to water,
but now I realize that this is a very unaddressed issue in the world. From
now on, I will be more aware of issues in the world. Clean drinking water
is the first, and most important step to lifting communities out of cycles
of illness and poverty. (Seager) This quote shows how much it means to
have access to clean drinking water. What are you going to do to help?
