Cognos 8 Go Mobile Installation Guidelines

This document will explain the installation of Cognos 8 Go Mobile Server and
Client Components. This covers installation of Mobile Emulator. The process of setting
up the mobile emulator and connecting it with the network is also explained in this
document.

Cognos 8 Go Mobile Installation

Install the Application Tier Component, gateway and Mobile client components in the
same location where Cognos 8 is installed.
Click the issetup.exe in the Win32 directory

Select the installation location (same as the cognos 8 location)

Select the required components,

After the installation is complete restart the Cognos Service. The Mobile Service will
be running on the Cognos Server

Cognos 8 Mobile Client Installation

The following applications are required to configure the Cognos 8 Go Mobile client in
the desktop using a mobile emulator.

Microsoft .NET Compact Framework

Windows Mobile Emulator
Microsoft Active Sync
Virtual machine network driver for Microsoft device emulator

The mobile emulator is an application that will launch a virtual phone and this can be
synchronized with local network using Active Sync.

Microsoft Active Sync

Install Microsoft Active Sync (for Windows Mobile)

Download the Microsoft Active Sync from the following link,

Microsoft .NET Compact Framework
Install .NET compact Framework in Windows mobile (If windows mobile 6.0 is used no
need to install this)
Follow the following steps to install .NET compact Framework in Windows mobile,
1. Install the .NET compact Framework in PC
2. Download the .NET compact Framework from the following link,

3. Once the Mobile is synchronized with PC the .NET Compact Framework will
be automatically installed in the mobile

Virtual PC
Install Virtual PC to get the Virtual machine network driver for Microsoft device
emulator

After installing Virtual PC, Install the Emulator

The Windows Mobile Emulator can be downloaded from the following link,

Windows emulator setup

Click the standalone_emulator_v1.exe

Installing Emulator images for Windows 5.0

Click the setup file efp.msi
After installing the Emulator open the Smartphone in the Programs -> Microsoft
Windows Mobile 5.0 MSFP Emulator Images

The Smartphone will be loaded.

Go to File>Configure
Select the local C: drive as shared folder.

Enable the Network adapter in Network tab

Select the serial Port 0 as COM1

Open the Device Emulator Manager,

Click on the device and then you can click Actions and select Cradle. This will initiate
ActiveSync.

Installing Cognos 8 Mobile Client.

Click the File Explorer in Windows mobile,

Select the Storage Card (storage card points to the local computer C drive) and
open the Cognos mobile dump location

Navigate to the Cognos_mobile.CAB file in the C8 mobile

dump\zipfiles\win32\mobclient-win32-app-8.2.1367.0inst.tar\webcontent\mobile\winmo location.

Double click the cognos_mobile.cab file. This will install the Cognos 8 Go Mobile
client in the mobile.

Select the Device as installation location and click install

The Cognos 8 Go mobile client will be installed.

Now the Cognos 8 Go Mobile application will be available in the Programs menu.

Click the Cognos 8 Go Mobile

Click Log On and provide the Cognos server url and click Connect
