Statement of Purpose

(Rawan Ghazi Bakhrebah)

As a woman with enormous potential for success, a sense of know-how and a desire to greatly improve
the lives of those around me, I strive to be an example of will-power, integrity and class. One of my deepest
yearnings is to become a great communicator as well as a good listener, to uplift and inspire. I aspire not only to
excel as an English instructor, I also look forward to becoming a life coach who holds the students in the best light
while challenging them to go beyond their own perceived limitations. It is my vision to encourage students to
reach new heights and think outside the box". Your TESOL Masters program holds a most valuable key to
achieving my lifes purpose as I have envisioned it.

Ever since I was a child and had the ability to understand English as a second language, I had become
fascinated by it. I started learning with a small book, which I still have until now. Of course, as a little girl with a
vivid imagination and a strong will to follow my dreams, I thought this could be possible, easily, but to my surprise,
it took years of in-depth study, hard work, and dedication which till now, I strive to complete.

However, these young years sparked an enthusiasm for English and a realization of an immense aptitude I
held toward learning English as a foreign language. Deep down inside me, I knew that we gain, everyday,
something more than what we came in with, and so it would be with the English language, whether it is
academically, socially or thru self awareness. As an individual and a student, the English language would allow me
to enter the global stage of communication. This excited me!

I also continue to believe that language is a major factor in defining us, and it is my goal to teach English to
other enthusiasts. My vision is to use the language to help enlightened those less educated. For something that
comes so naturally to all of us, language can hold a great power and influence. Even this personal statement is a
perfect example of how the English language can be utilized in order to communicate my immense interest in your
TESOL Masters program.

In terms of academic achievements, I have successfully completed all the subjects I studied at the university,
with passion. I like learning and feel motivated by a challenge. I also thrive in an atmosphere of team participation,
collaboration and cooperative partnerships which is a part of the academic environment.

My B.A degree has trained me to teach in a private school which is Jazzerat Alouloom for two years. Then I
was hired to be one of the ELI faculty members. Now I play an active role in the ELI and have consequently been
involved in many extra-curricular activities. I was appointed as a member in the Exam committee then the
1

Students' Services committee at Sharafiyya Campus and now I work as a mentor at the practicum in Language
Program in Salam Campus. I am also a member of the Organization Committee at THE ELI ANNUAL TEACHER
TRAINING DAY(2014-2015). My role here is developing my confidence, leadership skills and capacity to work cooperatively as a part of a team. My time in the ELI has developed my philosophy of valuing each student as an
individual, as well as part of a community. I aim to give students as many learning opportunities and experiences
as possible in order to engage, motivate and prepare them for future life. Progression needs to be planned for, so
that as students work and explore at their own pace, there is always something else ready to move them on and
take them further in their learning. I also believe that differentiation and meeting varied learning styles are key to
effective teaching and learning.

Prior to teaching at Jazzerat Aloulom school, I was hired to teach English in an institute for one month. I taught
courses involving all levels of English proficiency, ranging from beginning levels to more advanced levels. In
addition, I taught information technology to the diploma students in English. The combination of both, my
technical knowledge and my teaching experience, has shaped my vision of making learning creative, fun, and
interactive. It has also shaped who I am now, an open-minded woman, striving to successfully fulfill my goals and
dreams.

I look forward to a full immersion in your Masters TESOL program with advanced self study in the most
salient areas. It is my sincere belief that TESOL encompasses most, if not, all of my interests, whether it is inspiring
others, excelling academically, or setting an example as a professional woman in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. By
joining your master's program, I will achieve my professional career objectives and academic goals.
