A resolution to replace bureaucratic command-and-control governing

with market force-driven methods

WHEREAS: Science is a conservative value consistent with a
conservative world view (extraordinary claims require
extraordinary proof)
WHEREAS: command and control efforts like the EPA create huge
bureaucracies, thereby expanding the power of government
WHEREAS: subsidies create incentives that lead to cronycapitalism, which threatens to break our free-markets
WHEREAS: regulations result in creative use of loopholes
rather than creative use of solutions
WHEREAS: sometimes free markets cannot completely capture the
costs of production, leaving taxpayers to pick up the tab
WHEREAS: industry wants the certainty of a simple solution
over the uncertainty of current and proposed EPA
regulatory methods (e.g., CPP)
WHEREAS: a carbon-fee and dividend of the sort proposed by
the Schultz-Becker plan in 2013 does not grow
government, does not create new opportunities for
crony capitalists and does not create incentives to
cheat.

THEREFORE, WE PRESENT THIS RESOLUTION:

We stand for direct climate solutions. We support a goal of
powering America by at least 50% clean energy by 2030. We
support a simple, transparent and revenue-neutral carbon fee
and dividend to accomplish this goal.

Mission Possible 2016 - Conservative reasoning

Mission Possible 2016 - Liberal reasoning

A resolution to address climate change by significantly reducing
greenhouse gas emissions, in the fastest way that is politically feasible.
WHEREAS: The science on climate change is clear: Rising CO2
emissions are warming the atmosphere, melting ice almost
everywhere, raising sea levels and disrupting weather pattern.
WHEREAS: The increased atmospheric CO2 is caused by the burning
of fossil fuels coal, oil and gas, and
WHEREAS: Negative impacts on our society and ecosystems are
increasingly clear, and will get worse as temperatures rise, with the
worlds poor suffering the worst impacts, and
WHEREAS: the US Dept. of Defense, in their Threat Assessment report,
states that unchecked climate change will increasingly disrupt
weather patterns and increase instability around the world, causing
more conflict and more refugees, and
WHEREAS: Rising sea levels alone will increasingly threaten coastal
cities, ports and farm land, threatening trillions of dollars of real
estate, and the cost of inaction will be infinitely higher than the cost
of acting now, and
WHEREAS: a carbon fee and dividend of the sort proposed by the
Schultz-Becker Plan and the Citizens' Climate Lobby, is the fastest
and simplest way to decrease carbon emissions

THEREFORE, WE PRESENT THIS RESOLUTION:

We stand for direct climate solutions. We support a goal of
powering America by at least 50% clean energy by 2030. We
support a simple, transparent and revenue-neutral carbon fee
and dividend to accomplish this goal.
