Purpose of the instruction:

Our district has recently become a Google Apps for Education district and administration
is pushing for doing all things through Google. The goal is to familiarize teachers with Google
Forms and add ons for Google which will enable the teachers to easily incorporate technology
into their classroom. This will help teachers know how to make tests, quizzes, or questionnaires
for their classroom. Thomas R. Guskey stated that professional development programs are
systematic efforts to bring change in the classroom of teachers, in their attitudes and beliefs, and
in the learning outcomes of students.
Research has shown that experienced teachers hardly ever engage in a new instructional
approach until they have seen it work in their classrooms with their students. So, in my
professional development, I will have teachers work on a Google Form for a quiz then share it in
their classrooms. The next week we will use the data from their classrooms so that they will see
the success of this process.

Figure 1. How professional development changes teacher beliefs and attitudes. This figure
illustrates Guskey's model of teacher change.
To make sure that the training is successful, I will follow the ADDIE model. With this
model I will research about my learners, the learning objectives, different learning theories, and

different delivery options. I will also test the materials and procedures and then implement and
evaluate the training. Using the ADDIE model, I hope to create an instructional unit that will
help teachers and students.

Description of the learner:

The learner that we are targeting will be classroom teachers 6th-8th grade at Hudson
Middle School. These teachers are highly motivated individuals. There are currently 58 total
teachers with only 5 of those male. The teachers will go once a week for two weeks during their
conference to receive training in a computer lab where I will be available to help. The training
will be pre-recorded online so that the teachers will be able to work at their own pace. This
learner is an independent learner who is more involved, more motivated, and more active while
learning.

Goals and objectives of the instruction:

Instructional Goal:
My instructional goal is to get teachers comfortable with technology and teach them how
to use it in their classroom. I want to show teachers that it is essential to use technology to
improve learning, and that they can better differentiate instruction and help individual students
learn with more success in the classroom. Technology must be used as a tool to help the lesson.
Technology cannot be the lesson. With this lesson I hope to move teachers into more of a
facilitator role. When a teacher moves into a facilitator role they go from standing in front of the

room giving information and having students memorize to giving resources and asking questions
to guide the students learning.

Instructional Design Goals:

Teachers will be able to create a Google Form in 30 minutes or less
Teachers will be able to download add-ons for Google Forms and Spreadsheets during
the training
Teachers will be able to share their Google Forms with their students at the end of the
training
Teachers will be able to use the spreadsheet that the Google Forms made by the second
training
Teachers will be able to grade their Google Forms using add-ons at the end of the second
training.

Prerequisites
It is assumed that this group of professionals has basic media/ technology literacy skills.
Such prior knowledge and prerequisite skills include the following:
Teachers will know how to use Google Drive

Assessment of learning:
Teachers will successfully create and share a Google Form with their students and use a
Google add on (Flubaroo) to grade it. Flubaroo is a Google add on that helps teachers grade
multiple-choice or fill-in-blank assignments. With this app, teachers can see the average

assignment score, compute average score per question, flag low-scoring question, and it also
shows the teacher a grade distribution graph. It also gives the teacher the option to email the
students their grade and send individualized feedback to each student. They will share the form
and spreadsheet with me.

Scope and sequence of topics to be covered:

1. Create a Google Form assignment
2. Share with students
3. Use Flubaroo on spreadsheet to grade assignment
4. Share images with students

Estimated time for learner to complete the instruction:

The entire professional development will be for 2 weeks with 45 min sessions; once a
week.

Instructional strategies and methods:

The instructional strategy that I am using for this professional development is self-directed
learning. I will do a pre-recorded screencast showing the teachers step by step how to create and
use the Google Forms and Spreadsheets. One of the most prevalent impacts on adult education is
the research of self-directed learning. According to The Adult Learner: The Definitive Classic in
Adult Education and Human Resource Development the concepts and assumptions of selfdirected learning are the objective of adult education (Knowles, Swanson, Holton, 2005). Selfdirected learning leads to transformative learning which is the goal of adult education. This

learning will be learner-initiated, self-paced, and give the teachers individualized learning. The
learner will be working on a computer at a convenient time, place, and pace. I will also use
active learning where the teachers are engaged and using hands on learning. I will focus on 5
types of learning.
1. Visual: Teachers are going to watch my screencast of how to create the Google Form and
Spreadsheet.
2. Verbal: All of the steps will be narrated and the teachers would be able to ask questions
along the way.
3. Kinesthetic: Teachers will follow along on the computer. This way they actively engage
instead of passively watch and listen.
4. Intrapersonal: After the training, the teachers can work individually to create more Forms
and quizzes for their classes.

Team Members:
Jessica Cox, Instructional Designer
Selection of specific media to be developed:
Google Form
Google Classroom
Google Document
Screencast to show step by step process.

Estimated time to complete the development process:

The time to complete the development of the training should take around 2- 3 hours.

Resources required for development of the instruction:

Computer with internet and microphone
Google Account
Screencast software

Plan for evaluation, maintenance, and update of the instructional materials

After the completion of the professional development, the teachers will reflect on what
they liked and what could be improved on the training. There will be a Google Form out for all
teachers to fill out that I will get the results and be able to update the training based on their
feedback.
Plan for testing and quality assurance
This training will be sent out to 5 teachers and reviewed before sending it to the whole
school. Revisions will be made as necessary by the instructional designer and quality assurance
team.
