One of the most important things to avoid’ being ill is to have an active life. People are less active today than they used to be, because they spend their free time watching television, playing computer and video games. Cars have dominated our lives, and less and less people walk or ride bikes to get somewhere. As lives become busier, there is less time to cook healthy meals, so more and more people eat in restaurants, go to drive-ins, or buy quick foods at the grocery store or food market to heat up® at home. All of these contain more fat and calories than meals prepared from fresh foods at home. Children, especially, are the ones who feel more attracted to fast food restaurants and they are the ones who ask their parents to take them, not only for the food, but also because of the small gifts they offer... Something else doesn't help at all is ~ advertisements. They are everywhere! They make us believe that it is healthy not to eat, that it is OK for us to go to fast food restaurants, that smoking and drinking will make us more independent and wild... Kids and teenagers are being influenced by what they see on television and at the cinema. That’s why so many of them are now suffering from eating disorders. Today's boys and girls think they can be cooler if they are skinner. Today's boys and girls want to be part of the gang, so they are easily influenced and they start smoking and drinking.
