#BPSparentcamp2014
The research is abundantly clear:
Nothing motivates a child more
than when learning is valued by
schools and families/communities
working together in partnership
These forms of involvement do not
happen by accident or even by
invitation. They happen by explicit
strategic intervention.

Cmwells2@oakland.edu; mrbrady5@comcast.net
Our children and adolescents live in a time of incredible pressure and stress. Anxiety and depression among our youth has accelerated greatly.
Parents feel the stress of their own world while helping their children navigate. Find out why Time magazine made Mindfulness their cover story in
February, and how mindfulness is being taught to people of all ages, from the very young to adults. Dr. Wells teaches these concepts to the
graduate, doctoral, and medical students at Oakland University. Becky Brady will share her experiences as she introduced the practice of
mindfulness to her family. (D)

Cathy Hurley and Rachel Guinn (B032) High School Unscripted!

churley@birmingham.k12.mi.us; rguinn@birmingham.k12.mi.us
You can find answers from everything involving academics to athletics on the website, but what about the social emotional side of a high school

growth mindset in our children. (D)

Session II (10:00-10:45am)
Dr. Dan Nerad (Hawthorn) Whats Strategic about Our New Strategic Plan?
dnerad@birmingham.k12.mi.us
During the 2013-14 school year, the District revised its Strategic Plan. The revised Plan supports many of the critically important things the District
has been doing for students and identifies key next steps to remain a very high quality school district. So with our revised Strategic Plan what are
the key things we will be focusing on during the 2014-15 school year? This session will address key areas of focus and will provide time for dialogue
on this important work. (D)

Robin Moten (B031) Not Quite a Nightmare: Seeing the teenage years as the Age of Possibility
rmoten@birmingham.k12.mi.us
Parents and teachers often think of adolescent years as ones when you hold your breath until they're done, and hope for the best while you're
holding your breath. In this presentation, we'll find out how to change that mindset to one that knows that the adolescent years are truly the age of
possibility. (H)

Jill Moss (B032) Learning Math the Workshop Way
