HOMEWORK CENTER: A supervised, afterschool homework center is available for the

students every week Monday Wednesday. A
free late bus will take the students home at
5:00 pm. Any student who stays late must sign
up for the after-school activity prior to fourth
block

MAP TESTING: For the next two weeks

students will take online MAP assessments
in math, reading and literacy. These tests
measure progress and student growth as
well as identify areas in need of additional
instruction. As an online assessment they
are also practice for the new PARCC format.
Each student will test for two mornings during the testing window.

APPLICATIONS : We are accepting applications for next years lottery. Please refer your
friends and family to the school. Students who
bring in a completed application receive a free
uniform shirt! Applications may be obtained
from the main office (phone, fax or mail) or
may be downloaded from or completed online
at our website
www.academycharterhs.org.

EXCUSED ABSENCES: Please remember

that students who have over ten unexcused
absences for the semester lose credit in
their class(es). Saturdays count as regular
school days. Please provide the main office
all doctors notes or other documentation
which can excuse an absence. All parents/guardians should call the school to
report a student absent.
CREDIT COMPLETION: Students who
have between 10 and 20 unexcused absences lose credit in their class(es). A
grade of NC appears on the report card.
They are eligible for credit completion to
earn the credit back. Please refer to the
policy found on the website. Credit completion for the fall semester must be
completed before April 1, 2015. If a
student exceeds 20 unexcused absences
there is no option for credit recovery. Absence for more than half of a class (tardy or
leave early) counts as an absence from that
class.
B6T TRANSPORTATION: To ensure the
provision of transportation for the 20152016 school year, all students MUST return
a completed form ASAP to Ms. Wright.

ASHA: Students in the Class of 2015 are still

under the HSPA as a graduation requirement.
Those students who have yet to pass both the
math and language arts sections are mandated
to complete the after-school AHSA program.
AHSA provides an opportunity for students to
demonstrate their mastery of the material. Failure to complete the program equates in not
meeting graduation requirements.
PARCC INFORMATION: NJ is one of several
states using the PARCC assessment as a measure of student achievement. This assessment is
one of the ways students (Juniors or younger)
can meet their graduation requirements. Learn
more about PARCCHow is it structured? Try
sample problems. Come to our parents meeting
February 23 at 5:30 pm
PARENT CONFERENCES: Please set aside
time on your calendars for our next round of
parent conferences. This is a great opportunity
to check on your students progress through
face-to-face meetings with their second semester teachers. Conferences are the later afternoon/evening of March 25 and the afternoon of
March 26.

BLACKBOARD CONNECT: ACHS has

moved to a direct connect system of notification. This is how we make important
announcements such as school closings
and notification of other important
events. Please update your cell phone and
emails as these are the methods of contact. Students can also register to receive
the messages directly. Please contact Ms.
Wright for all updates.
DRESS CODE: NEW SWEATSHIRTS!!!!
With the fresh start to the new semester
we are reminding all students and families
about the importance of students coming
to school in dress code every day. This
means Khakis and a charter shirt or other
school logo clothing. Sweaters, hoodies,
scarves and other outerwear are not to be
worn. We are placing new orders for

school fleece $32 (very warm!), school

crewneck sweatshirts $20 and jackets $30
or $32 personalized. Order forms can be
obtained from Ms. Dona or in the main
office. Students not in dress code will not
be permitted to stay in school.
When you limit yourself to what
is comfortable you deny yourself
what is possible
