Oculus Rift

Haifaa Hussein

Look out America, a new technology is coming. A company named Oculus has
nearly come out with a consumer-ready Virtual Reality (VR) headset called the Rift. The
Rift is comprised of a screen and two lenses, the lenses make the screen fill your
peripheral vision causing your brain to think that it is in virtual space. This technology is
awesome; however, it is very expensive. To pre-order, it is an incredible $599. The Rift is
open for pre-order now and it will be released in March 28, 2016. This new technology is
posing a threat to the console developers. If everybody is concerned about getting a good
enough pc for the oculus, then they will be leaving out buying the consoles to save
money. The only chance the consoles have is to hope that most people think that a pc
around $1,600 is too much and they would rather have a console that costs a couple of
hundred bucks. This technology is still early and is in its development phase. There is
more to come from oculus and other VR companies in aspect of emerging technology.

. I used google search engine to get the first article Oculus Rift and HTC Vive:
Virtual Reality Remains so near and Yet so far in the website www.theguardian.com,
and I used Firefox search engine to get the second article Oculus Rift in the website
https://en.wikipedia.org
According to the first article, the oculus rift is being presented as the time that
virtual reality goes mainstream consumers of preorders of the Oculus rift. The Oculus
Rift grabs headlines for the foreseeable future its worth a step back. What notice about
these devices is that they require a computer with high end hardware, and they are
expensive, too.

According to the second article that Oculus VR involved in develop the Rift (VR
head mounted display). Kickstarter campaign which starts made this emerging
technology to develop the product by raised US $2.5 million. The first come out for this
Rift will be in March 28, 2016. What expected is large number of people who interesting
in technology will race to get the new look of that product.

. The first engine, google, was better because it was easier to access, more
straight forward, it has more options, you choose when the post was posted, and you can
block from seeing certain users post. In other wise, Firefox engine does not give you
choices to get new posts, it just gives you all the posts that have been posted.

. TRAAP the first resource (Oculus Rift and HTC vive: Virtual reality remains so
near and yet so far).

The time that the article was written was in February 24, 2016.

Relevance: It gave a simple information about what I need to know about the
Oculus Rift.

Authority: The author is Jerry Daykin he is a digital partner at Carat Global,

so he is qualified to write in this subject according to his occupation and
information in his field. But generally any one can add his or her idea to this
information because it is open to everyone.

Accurate: According to this article the information depends on the author

ideas, so it may not have enough evidence, and it needs to be test to get more
secure about its accuracy.

This article was written to inform about what characteristic this device has,
and for marketing purposes, too.

. The scholarly journal articles from CCBC library are:

during cervical spine mobility measurement.
-Libraries and the rift: Oculus Rift and 4D devices in libraries.

. The keywords I used were "Oculus Rift", and the database I used is Academic OneFile.
Because those database are known and trusted, so I will not be worried about the trustiness of the
articles.

Through research, on the internet, I noticed that pop-ups show that are not connected to
the search in any way. But with journal articles, the search was easier and most of the results
related to the key words without commercial advertisements. About the timelines in the Internet,
the timelines of the articles were written in 2016, but they were various and not updated. One of
the articles was written in 2015 while the other in 2016 so, together they form a timeline of one
year. The Authority of the internet resources is insecure because they were given the opinions of
different people most of them are not related to what they wrote about and no one takes the
responsibility about what had been written, so they could have been written for personal or
marketing purposes. On the contrary, journal articles were having authority from certain and
reliable sides which take the responsibility about what the articles talk about.
