EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
I believe in an equal right to education for all studentsno matter their
gender, race, socioeconomic background, or abilities. Every student has the right to
learn and be taught. A school should be a safe, comfortable place where every
student is respected and treated as valuable and priceless. Students should always
know what is expected of them and, in turn, the consequences for not meeting
those expectations. Educators are role models as well as teachers.
I believe a school and curriculum should be designed to teach s tudents how
to learn and to encourage them to love learning. Students should take part in
establishing how they will learn. Learning should include creativity, individuality,
discussions, and analysis. Students should be encouraged to discover their own
learning styles and academic needs; educators should adjust to meet these
individual needs and styles. Students should be grouped by interests and abilities.
All students should be given a chance to work independently as well as in groups,
promoting self-efficiency as well as a sense of community.
I believe it is important for students to be able to relate what they are
learning in the classroom with the outside world in preparation for adulthood.
Students should be taught about the social and eco logical problems that plague our
nation and our planet. They should be given opportunities to participate in small
and large scale projects that promote social and ecological responsibility. I also
believe schools should strive to teach students an intimat e respect for all cultures
and people.
