Industrial Boiler Measurements

Typical industrial boiler measurements

Conductivity / Total Dissolved Solids

pH
Phosphates

Often done as grab samples off-line

Continuous conductivity measurements
can provide better control
Depending on temperature/pressure of Blowdown &
boiler and rating of sensors, sample
Conductivity
cooling may not be required
Measurement
The new High Temperature Conductivity
Sensor extends the range to 250 psig
(17 bar) at 392F (200C) without sample
cooling, eliminating the complexity and
costs of cooling

Boiler System Measurements

The blowdown line is the boiler water conductivity sampling point
- Blowdown is the water with concentrated minerals purged from the boiler which allows
-

replacement with more dilute makeup water

The valve downstream of the sample point adjusts the blowdown flowrate and maintains
enough back pressure to prevent the sample from flashing to steam

Condensate conductivity is equally important

- It can detect process contamination ingress quickly where it is cool, before the
-

contaminants reach the boiler which is most vulnerable to corrosion and scaling
Continuous monitoring is even more important
Conditions allow use of standard conductivity sensors
