Colour code the QR codes for different groups
Make sure all essential apps are downloaded/work
on the Ipads (Number 8,14,1 and 5)
Make sure that every student has a QR information
sheet

Motivation and Introduction:


1. Ask the students to come and sit in the mat session area ready
for the start of the lesson.
2. Once we have gained the students attention, introduce who we
are and where we are from.
Hi Year 2s, Im Bek and Im Sarah. We are from The University of
Notre Dame and weve come to teach you about historically
significant buildings around Fremantle, using iPads and apps to help
you understand the concepts of our lesson.

Where we go to University, we are surrounded by lots of historically


significant building. One of the buildings that we have some of our
classes in was originally a Hotel building (Show picture of Education
Building on iPad). But we also have some new buildings like this one
(Show picture of Tannock Hall on iPad).

The First photo was from the past and the second one is from the
present. Who knows what these two words mean?
3. Ask the students to stand up for the motivation activity and move
outside
4. Have one assistant teacher hold the iPad with the past and
present pictures at the front of the group of students

5. One other assistant will be on the left hand side of the group
holding another iPad with the word Past
6. One other assistant will be on the right hand side of the group
holding another iPad with the word Present
7. Inform students of game instructions When a picture is shown
on the iPad they have to move to the word that it corresponds to.

8. Have to students move back inside the classroom and split off
into allocated groups to start the activities.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

9. Once the students have been separated into the two groups, sit
down together and talk through our activity.
10. Our activity is focusing on local historically significant buildings
around Fremantle and North Fremantle. By the end of our activity
today, you will all become experts about one building either from
the past or the present.

Not many new/modern buildings because of the heritage listed buildings


and the old past

11. Students will then be split up into smaller groups to complete this
activity, this will be done by choosing a pop stick with a colour at
one end. These colours will form the 4 different groups.
12. Allocate each group an iPad (8, 14, 1 and 5) and an information
sheet to fill out with questions.

13. Then explain how to use the different apps, QR code reader.

14. Students complete the QR code activity:


15. Each coloured group will have a building and this will be their
focus:
- Dingo Flour Past
- Fremantle Prison Past
- Maritime Museum (New building) Present
- Round house Past
16. These QR codes will correspond to the colour of their group
17. One person is in charge of the iPad and the others need to fill in
the questions as they find the answers by scanning the code
18. These codes will be placed up around the inside and the outside
of the classroom
19. Each QR code will have a set information about the significant
building each group will have to find these will include:

20. When students have found all the information, an assistant will be
assigned to a group of students to help them use the features of
the app Pic Collage.

21. Students will transfer all of this information into the app Pic
Collage and will have the choice to present the information as
they like.
22. Once all groups have finished the Pic Collage, students will


spend time presenting to each other what their building was and
how they have presented the information.
23. Students will swap over to the other groups activity

24. Repeat these lesson steps for the next group of students Finish
