Statement from Arnie Rothschild, Spokesman for the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee (RACC) On Monday, the people of Upstate New York watched as one of their own turned their back against them. Bill Magee, a friend of the downstate Democrats, voted in favor of the Assembly budget that would cut funding to local family farms by 50 percent and give a taxpayerfunded college education to illegals, leaving many in Upstate wondering who Mr. Magee is really working for. As Chairman of the Agriculture Committee and a so-called representative of the people of Central New York, many wouldve thought Mr. Magee would have put the interests of his people first. Whether Mr. Magee forgot or simply just doesnt care anymore, Upstate is suffering under the expensive and burdensome policies coming out of the mouths of detached and insulated Downstate politicians. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and our quality of life. Our family farms struggle daily with tight margins, high taxes and an endless run of regulations governing all aspects of farming. If we keep making it harder to run our family farms, were not going to have family farms. Its unacceptable that Mr. Magee disregarded his responsibilities as a representative of Upstate and its agricultural community and chose to fall in line with the New York City agenda. In light of these facts, his constituents should strongly encourage Mr. Magee to reconsider his loyalties and call for his resignation as the Chairman of the Agriculture Committee in the Assembly immediately. ###
