1. What is GIS? 4 points
o Geography Information system, it use in computers and software
systems which are a fundamental principle.

What are three uses of GIS?

o Inventory, analyze, and manages many aspects of the world

How might GIS be used in solutions to problems?

o If you drive down a highway GIS control the sign along the way. It take the
number and databases and put it on map. GIS can make cool maps by
values from the database to help illustrate main points

3. Geographic Information Systems in Public Health - 4 points

Explain three (3) examples listed in this presentation about the use of GIS
in public health.
o The Example that he presented were the diabetes mortality rate, fast food
chains and location of grocery stores.

4.

What is the most frequently occurring issue in this area (see the Incident
Layers to understand the iconsnot everything is crimeATTENTION TO
DETAIL)?

o The most frequently occurring issue in the area is that there are many sex
offender within the grid point asked for.

Why is this type of map useful in public and community health? Justify
your answer.
o This type of map is useful because it give you information about the type
of people that live around you, and the crime they have committed. It also

household income when we decide populations at risk or in need of
services?
o It gives us an ideas about the economic effect on this group of
household, and it shows us what the middle class household is
making.

6. Using online GIS mapping software- 12 points

o Why would that be a difficult walk to the store?

Even though its a mile, walking it would take almost an hour

making it longer for that person to get to where they need to
get.

Using Google Street view follow the street down to 14 th and Massachusetts to
see the two grocery stores on that corner. Take a screen shot to use in your
presentation. What are the common ads on both markets?

o The Common ads to these markets is that they are both grocery store
and they are an easy access.

What are the causes of those diseases from a social standpoint for
populations?
o I think that the diseases are cause by the things that we breathe in, by
the types of food that we eat, by not exercising like we should. We do
not take care about our bodies and I think that those are some of the
cause of disease that are becoming more and more known.

How would you make the association between death by ZIP code and
the availability of food in 92411?
o The association between death by ZIP code and the availability of food
in 92411 is that there is not as many food place or near. There are
areas that are not very clean, which make cause people to get sick
