During their history, the club has been known by a number of nicknames, including Los
Colchoneros ("The Mattress Makers"), due to their first team stripes being the same colours as oldfashioned mattresses. During the 1970s, they became known as Los Indios, allegedly due to the club
signing several South American players after the restrictions on signing foreign players were lifted.
However, there are a number of alternative theories which claim they were named so because their
stadium is "camped" on the river bank, or because Los Indios (The Indians) were the traditional
enemy of Los Blancos (The Whites), which is the nickname of the club's city rivals, Real Madrid

Torres and Griezmann shine in Atletico Madrid's

'perfect seven'

Antoine Griezmann scored Atletico's first goal to set his team on their way.

Atletico Madrid made it seven games without defeat in all competitions, after they produced
arguably their best away performance of the season to see off Valencia 3-1 on Sunday.
The Mestalla is never an easy place to go to -- just ask Real Madrid and Barcelona, who both drew
there this season -- and Diego Simeone's cause was not helped by the fact that his rock at the back,
Diego Godin had to sit the game out through illness.
Nevertheless, it did not stop Los Colchoneros from impressing and they deservedly took the lead
through Antoine Griezmann after 20 minutes. Godin's presence was missed however, when
Valencia equalised through Denis Cheryshev shortly after but even with the scores level at that
point, only one side looked like they were going to win.
With his side dominating but showing no cutting edge, Simeone rolled the dice and his
substitutions, not for the first time this season, changed the game. Fernando Torres produced an
instinctive finish at the back post from a flicked-on corner before Yannick Carrasco sealed the
result after Santos had been dismissed for felling El Nino.
