After School Help

Sometimes a little extra help is required. I will hold office hours on Thursday after school and am happy
to assist your student at that time, if needed. If Thursday does not work and your child is in need of extra
help, please contact me to arrange another time.

Specials Schedule
Monday: Library
Tuesday: PE
Wednesday: Art/ Technology/ Music
Thursday: PE
Friday: Music

Daily Snack
Students are allowed to snack at their desk at any time throughout the day provided it is a healthy choice,
and does not require a spoon or fork. Popcorn, dry cereal in a bag and granola bars are a few acceptable
suggestions. Several students in the classroom have nut allergies, so please avoid snacks for your child
that include nut products. In addition, I encourage you to send a water bottle with your student each dayespecially when the weather is warm as these also are allowed on their desks at all times.

Treats:
Occasionally I will reward students with a piece of candy. Again, being mindful of allergies, if you would
rather that I do not hand out candy to your student, please simply send me an email or a text stating so.
Generally, the candy consists of a roll of Smarties, a Dum Dum sucker, or a few Skittles.

Class Website
Check out our class website! I will be posting homework, important information, and a secured link so
you can view school pictures of your child. I will forward the link in an upcoming newsletter.
In the mean time, I will be occasionally posting classroom updates on what we are working on as well as
photos on my classroom Facebook account. It is completely private and only families of St. Jude will be
accepted as friends. If you would rather your students photograph not appear on this private Facebook
account, simply let me know!
If you would like to be permitted to see the photos and updates on our Classroom Facebook account,
please send a friend request to Beth Pardo using your Facebook account.

Behavior Management
Classroom rules and policies will be discussed and determined as a class family. The rules and policies
will be recorded and posted in our classroom so students are able to easily refer to them. Each rule will
be modeled and practiced so all students understand the expectations.
Student behavior is recorded on a basketball chart in our classroom. Every Monday, all students will
begin on the bench. The goal is to remain on the bench, and not to move up the basket balls. If a
students clip is moved to ball one, it is considered a warning. A clip that moves up to ball two will result

in a silent lunch. Ball three yields a note sent home; ball four a phone call home. Students whose clips
remain off the basketballs will receive a ticket at the end of the week. Every Friday, all the tickets will be
tossed in a jar and the student whose ticket is drawn is eligible to receive a prize from the prize box.
Randomly, when a student is exceptionally kind or helpful to a fellow student or staff member, he or she
will place their picture on the Brownie Points baking pan! The baking pan is the place to be seen!

Homework
Students should expect homework every day. This should take no longer than 30- 40 minutes. If
homework is taking longer than that, please let me know right away. It is meant to be extra practice, and
should not frustrate your student!

Meet the Teacher Night

Save the date! Please stop by to say hi and see our classroom on Thursday, September 4 th at 6:30 P.M.

School Pictures
School Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 16. Students are not required to wear their
uniform this day if they choose to dress up for their photograph. Say Cheese!

Parent/Student Handbook
The 2014-3015 Parent/Student Handbook has been revised. It was e-mailed to you and can be found on
the school website at:
http://www.stjudejoliet.net/parentinformationdocumentsforms.html
This document can help to answer other school related questions you may have.

Attention!
Our class will be participating in a teamwork exercise tomorrow. It
involves handling, and possibly consuming candy: gummy worms and
gummy lifesavers.

I am sensitive to the fact that there are several students with food
allergies and wanted to double check that using (and possibly eating)
these items in our classroom tomorrow would be acceptable.
If I do not hear from you by tomorrow morning at 9:00am, I will assume
that your student can handle and eat the gummy worms and lifesavers. If
you would rather your student NOT participate, then please send me an
email or text to let me know by 9:00am.

Thank you very much!
