Task--Explore and answer the following essential question:
What is the impact of poetry today, compared to what
it has been in the past? Process 1. Students will collect information relating to the essential question. As part of this, students must refer to and explore the career, work and life of at least two poets. One of these may be a musician who writes lyrics, but at least one of the poets must be identifiable as primarily a poet. You may want to examine a current poet, as well as one from the past; this would allow you to consider the essential question. Students must refer to at least 5 sources. Possible sources include poems, song lyrics, articles about poets and musicians, and anything else that relates to the topic 2. Students will summarize their information about the topic, and about the two poets they have chosen. Please provide a summary for each of your sources. It can be in complete sentences, or in point form. 3. Students will reflect upon the information they have acquired. A reflection can take the form of other questions that the information brings to mind, an opinion you have formed, or an insight you have gained. Reflect upon your growing understanding of the issue. Please provide two reflections: one for each poet. Reflections can include visual tools such as graphics, or charts, or any other way you can think of to represent your thoughts. Reflections should be at least two paragraphs long. 4. Students will complete a bibliography. 5. Students will answer the essential question. Your answer will have two components: A clear, concise answer to the essential question; and Supporting detail, that explains at length why you have answered the question in the way you have. This is the heart of your inquiry, and should be a comprehensive explanation, not a quick one.
Checklist Each students completed inquiry will include the following: 1. 2. 3. 4.
