Part 1 - Steam Water Piping

1. Valves up through two inches in size shall be brass, malleable iron, or steel bodies.
2. Maximum peak heat release rate of insulation - 300 kW
3. Maximum total heat release of insulation - 50 MJ
4. Maximum total smoke release of insulation - 500 m2
5. Changes in the direction in copper tubing may be made with bends having a radius not
less than six diameters of the tubing.
6. Copper Tubings (Color Coding)
+ Type L - Blue
+ Type K - Green
+ Type M - Red
+ Type ACR - Blue
+ Type DWV - Yellow
7. Type of tubing for condensate return lines - Type K
8. Type of tubing for steam condenser cooling water lines, underground, and
aboveground water lines - Type L
9. Type of tubing for aboveground water lines not embedded in concrete - Type M
10. Maximum temperature of surfaces within normal reach of building occupants - 60oC
11. Minimum clearance from the structure around steam pipes - 1 inch (25.4mm)
12. Use of mechanical excavating equipment is prohibited within 2 ft. of existing piping.
13. Refilling (an excavated hole) with the material dug out of it - Backfilling
14. Medium for testing the piping - Water
15. Minimum Test temperature in pipe insulation - 121oC
