I am writing this letter in strong support of Allison Lutzs application for a math position at your school. I have known Allison for the past two years. When I became principal at Cresskill Middle/High School, it soon became clear that Allison was a leader not just in the Math department, but more broadly, in the middle/high school. Allisons classroom practice is among the strongest that I have seen. I have said on numerous occasions that I would love for Allison to teach my own children. There is a strong culture for learning present in her class consistently. Students work from bell to bell. She has worked to create a culture where she can work with a small group or an individual student, and other students can work with peers or in small groups simultaneously. She values reflection, and an observer would quickly see that students make choices about their learning and reflect on their process and next steps. She creates fun and engaging tasks for students about topics such as Fantasy Football, and engages students in higher order thinking to get them to understand the connection between mathematics and the real world. Allison has the keen ability to provide supports to struggling students and extensions for higher skilled students. She knows her students well and does an outstanding job communicating with their families. Aside from her classroom practice, she has worked as a Learner Active coach, sharing techniques with colleagues and working with them on planning both units and lessons. Allison has also been a member of our Leadership Team- a group that meets monthly to discuss the strengths and needs of our school. Allison is a wonderful asset to our school, and I have no doubt that she would be a terrific addition to your staff. Her thoughtfulness, creativity, and professionalism are among her greatest strengths, and she will surely be missed in Cresskill. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any additional questions.
Sincerely, Alison Angrisani Principal Cresskill Middle/High School 201-227-7791 ext. 1004 aangrisani@cboek12.org
