HEAD LOSS CALCULATION FOR PIPELINE

1)Comparison of head loss between proposed and existing 1850mm dia. pipes

Length of existing pipeline,L = 2805 m

Length of proposed pipeline,L = 3805 m

Diameter of pipeline,D = 1.85 m

Roughness of coefficient, C = 110

Assume the flowrate,Q = 4.08 m3/s

Assume the velocity,V = 1.5m/s

By using Hazen William Formula,

So, the head loss for existing pipeline for 1850mm dia. is,

Head loss, h = 10.64 L x Q 1.85

C 1.85 x D 4.87

= 3.36 m

The head loss for proposed pipeline for 1850mm dia.

= 4.56 m

The total head loss for proposed pipeline is less than existing pipeline. (OK)

2)Comparison of head loss between proposed and existing 900mm dia. pipes

Length of existing pipeline,L = m

Length of proposed pipeline,L = m

Diameter of pipeline,D = 0.9 m

Roughness of coefficient, C = 110

Assume the flowrate,Q = 1.0 m3/s

Assume the velocity,V = 1.5m/s

By using Hazen William Formula,

So, the head loss for existing pipeline for 900mm dia. is,

Head loss, h = 10.64 L x Q 1.85

C 1.85 x D 4.87

= m

The head loss for proposed pipeline for 900mm dia.

= m

The total head loss for proposed pipeline is less than existing pipeline. (OK)

3)Comparison of head loss between proposed and existing 600mm dia. pipes

Length of existing pipeline,L = 2462 m

Length of proposed pipeline,L = 1350 m

Diameter of pipeline,D = 0.6 m

Roughness of coefficient, C = 110

Assume the flowrate,Q = 0.42 m3/s

Assume the velocity,V = 1.5m/s

By using Hazen William Formula,

So, the head loss for existing pipeline for 600mm dia. is,

Head loss, h = 10.64 L x Q 1.85

C 1.85 x D 4.87

= 10.59m

The head loss for proposed pipeline for 600mm dia.

= 5.81 m

The total head loss for proposed pipeline is less than existing pipeline. (OK)
4)Comparison of head loss between proposed and existing 150mm dia. pipes

Length of existing pipeline,L = m

Length of proposed pipeline,L = m

Diameter of pipeline,D = 0.15 m

Roughness of coefficient, C = 110

Assume the flowrate,Q = 0.03 m3/s

Assume the velocity,V = 1.5m/s

By using Hazen William Formula,

So, the head loss for existing pipeline for 150mm dia. is,

Head loss, h = 10.64 L x Q 1.85

C 1.85 x D 4.87

= m

The head loss for proposed pipeline for 150mm dia.

= m
