PowerPoint Presentation
Family Project
My Habitat
Due Date: May 25, 2016
32 points
Activity: This year, as a class, we have become very familiar with PowerPoint. We have worked in several
collaborative groups using PowerPoint presentations. Now is the time for your child to show off his/her skills!
This past month our class has explored how animals meet the basic needs of food and shelter in various habitats. We
have learned how to use a graphic organizer to organize our ideas. As a family, please make a PowerPoint
presentation featuring one animal from the arctic. Your child has already chosen and gathered information for
particular animal. Your child will present their PowerPoint to the classroom.
For an example of this project please visit my webpage: http://mrslabrucherie.weebly.com/habitat-familyproject-may.html
Objective: Students, along with their family members, will be using PowerPoint to create a presentation on
their favorite animal from the Arctic using research already gathered in the classroom.
Common Core State Standards:
W 1.1.: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about,
state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
W.1.6: With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing,
including in collaboration with peers.
W.1.7: Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., explore a number of how-to books on a given
topic and use them to write a sequence of instructions.)
RI 1.5. Know and use various text structures (e.g., sequence) and text features (e.g., headings, tables
of contents, glossaries, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text. CA
RI.1.6: Distinguish between information provided by pictures or other illustrations and information provided by
the words in a text.
RI.1.9: Identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic (e.g., in illustrations,
descriptions, or procedures).
RI.1.10: With prompting and support, read informational texts appropriately complex for grade 1.
a. Activate prior knowledge related to the information and events in a text. CA
SL.1.3: Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information or clarify
something that is not understood.
International Society for Technology Education Standards for Students (ages 4-8):
In a collaborative work group, use a variety of technologies to produce a digital presentation or product in a
curriculum area.
Use simulations and graphic organizers to explore and depict patterns of growth such as the life cycles of plants
and animals.
Demonstrate the safe and cooperative use of technology.
Parents, have fun with this assignment! The idea for a family project is to work together. Let your child Shine
and show you what they have learned. Let them lead and guide them when they need guidance. I am very
excited to listen to these presentations!
Good Luck,
Mrs. LaBrucherie
