MAIN FORMS AND PROPORTIONS: Students will learn the shapes of things as well as develop
decorative styles.
A. All shapes can be reduced to basic shapes; i.e., circular, triangular, rectangular.
B. Shapes can be depicted as organic or geometric.
C. Shapes can be made using different procedures; e.g., cutting, drawing, tearing, stitching.
D. Animals and plants can be represented in terms of their proportions.
E. A horizontal line can be used to divide a picture plane into interesting and varied proportions of
sky and ground.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. Cut or tear out fir tree shapes in order to build a forest (see example page at bottom)
2. Students will use shapes to depict objects (many triangles piled up on one another = a fir
tree, rectangle = trunk)
3. Students will use larger or smaller shapes to represent proportion in their pictures

Adding snow
Students will take white pencil crayon to draw snow and
snowflakes onto their pictures
Students will take white paint and lightly drip paint around to
look like swirling snow
