Business
Card
Description:

A business card designed using a personally created logo.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 04
Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

Objectives:

Learn to create and print an effective multi-layered document for a business.

Process:

I began with drafting a few different ideas to do with an imaginary production

company, SunDream Productions. I liked the idea of a drawn image, so I used a
calligraphy brush on Illustrator to create waves and the sun. I Used photoshop to
create the yellow orb which I used for the center of the sun, and then brought
that back to Illustrator. I used the waves and logo from the cards to create a
letterhead, which is the large document below.

Objectives:

Learn to create and print an effective multi-layered document for a business.

Process:

I began, using my contact information to create an accent to the logo. The text
forms an arrow-shape which leads the eye to the right, and so is comfortable in
its appearance. The wave graphic from the business card I inserted near the base
of the page, giving it a low opacity of 30%, so as not to distract the eye, but
at the same time keep the page interesting and unique.

Brochure
Description:

A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

Objectives:

Learn to create a visually appealing brochure using text-wrap and print the
brochure in high-resolution.

Process:

I set up the canvas in InDesign for a double sided brochure. I used my own camera
and tripod to take a picture of me holding a can of paint and a paint brush and
also without. I did this by setting the timer on the camera and having a friend
place the objects in my hands without me moving. I ended up having to retake this
picture a number of times in order to get the desired lighting.
I cut out the photos background in photoshop and placed the images in InDesign,
where I began to organize my project. The logo, I made in Photoshop, as well,
using a contact lens with a red color filter and fonts I found online.
The paragraph stlye, I created using the paragraph style tool, which helped in
organizing the body text. I also used the text wrap tool to get the text to doge
the arms on the front page. In the end I had to print the image more than twenty
times in order to get the arms to match up perfectly, through trail and error.
Im satisfied with the finished product and believe it was well worth the struggle.

Adobe Photoshop and Text Wrangler

Objectives:

Learn to create a visually appealing Website using html along-side css code.

Process:

I created this webpage using a program called Text Wrangler. I edited and
customized the html to create this site, using a basic framework, to which I
added my graphics, text, images, etc.
The background image is a photo I took, which I edited in Photoshop to complement
the graphic, which I created using mainly Illustrator and InDesign.
The dropdown menu, when one hovers over the second image, was created using css,
as well as other styles such as fonts, colors, and placement.

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Objectives:

Create outlines of drawn graphics in Illustrator.

Process:

I started by drafting a number of logo ideas on paper, mostly demonstrating the

lover theme. After choosing a few, I got some opinions of friends on which
one they like most. In the end, I decided on the one above. The couple is handpainted with acrylics on paper, which I took a picture of with my dslr and then
later outlined on Illustrator. The colors were added on last using a paintbrush
tool.

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Objectives:

I wanted to create a simply and visually-appealing design that would inspire

expression.

Process:

I started by drafting some different ideas, in which Id be able to use a number

of different colors, or a tetradic color scheme. I ended up with the idea of
create prospective sound waves, protruding from my mini guitar amp. I shot the
photo of the amp in a dark powder-room, using my cell phone flashlight to add a
dramatic lighting. Next, I created one sound wave design in Illustrator, which
I later copied into Photoshop a number of times, colored, and added their text.
I clipped the amp from the photograph and pasted it into the picture, as well,
bringing down the saturation to zero to add contrast to the wave elements.
The quote is a Spanish saying which means, Of taste and colors, there are no
authors.

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Convey a message using two different images together.

Process:

I began with an image I took a couple months ago of the Catalina island, and used
Photoshop to add greater clarity and contrast to the image.
I then, took a photo of my model looking into the light for a hopeful affect.
I placed the second image into the first on Photoshop and, using a layer mask,
painted off parts of the image at varying opacities.
To finish, I added text at two different opacities and fonts for contrast.

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word

Objectives:

A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and
a scanner.

Process:

I found the photograph of Yellowstone National Park in an oversize book, which I

scanned to use as the background image. I then entertained a number of ideas for
text and format, drafting all apparent possibilities. I decided on a text design
which would contrast and be easily read, but also emphasize the beauty of the
background image, rather than distract from it. The logos I found online as .png
files.

Event Flier
Description:

Flier to promote leadership conference in Black & White.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 04

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Create an image that entertains the importance of visual flow while providing
useful information.

Process:

I started by using drafting a number of times on paper what I had in mind, then
moved to Photoshop to remove the persons from their background and edit the image
quality slightly. I then brought the image to InDesign where I pieced all aspects
together, being wary of white space and avoiding clutter, and added a light bulb
graphic as a finishing touch.
