CAP Admission Examination 1

MOCK

This mock exam was made by Leon and does NOT reflect UofTs Department of Physical
Therapy in any way. This mock exam was made for the sole purpose of helping individuals
practice typical interview questions. Any scenarios in the exam are purely hypothetical, a
figment of my own imagination and a compilation of resources freely available across the
World Wide Web.

1) A) What is your greatest criticism of the University of Toronto Department of Physical Therapys
application system?
b) The University is considering implementing a new policy to encourage aboriginal applicants.
10% of all seats will be reserved for applicants with an aboriginal ancestry. Do you agree with
this policy? Why or why not?

c) A recent report states that the aboriginal community feels that health care practitioners who
do not have an aboriginal background do not respect their culture and try to impose western
views of thinking far too much. This is causing a conflict in the aboriginal community. As a
member of the Faculty at the University of Toronto, with the authority to implement new
policies and make changes to the curriculum for the training of physical therapists, what would
you do?

2) A) You are taking a walk by a lake and notice two people drowning. One is a 10 year old child,
the other a 55 year old man. You can save only one. Who do you save and why?

b) You are a physiotherapist in training at a hospital. You are still a student, doing your internship
at the hospital. You notice senior physiotherapists discussing patients in the corridors where
everyone else can hear what they are saying. What do you do?

problem be addressed?

apply for physiotherapy?

4) A) If you took time off between completing your undergraduate degree and applying to PT,
explain what you did in the meantime.

b) What is the greatest challenge you expect to face as a PT?

c) Prevention is better than cure. Do you agree with this statement? Explain how it applies to the
field of physical therapy

health effects whatsoever. Should marijuana be legalized as a result of this study?
b) What benefits are there to legalizing marijuana?

6) a) What is the most important trait a physiotherapist should have?

b) Describe a past experience that demonstrates that you possess this trait

c) The Department of Physical Therapy is considering replacing the CAP test with an MMI process.
The MMI is an interview where the applicant is assessed by 10 different interviewers at 10 different
stations. Each station is designed to test different personality traits of the applicant. Do you
think the MMI would be a better way of assessing an applicants fit for the program? Why or why
not?

7) How have you contributed to your community?
